Cute Story, Awful Narration

It’s like the narrator was once told that his voices were too similar so he decided to take it to the extreme in the opposite direction. It was WAY too “acted” and less like actual people in conversation…

This absolutely could have been half the length… I enjoyed the premise and both the MCs, it just dragged sooooo much for hours of listening…

Loved this story (so far my favorite of the series!) The narration is kinda rough though. I really enjoyed half the narration. Iggy Toma is great! I struggle with Alexander Cendese though… Based on other reviews this may be a personal problem, but I struggle hard with the pacing, he reads about twice as fast as Iggy and his side character voices sound like caricatures. His coach voice sounds EXACTLY like the history teacher in Daria, and the father voices he does sound like a sea captain… I actually like his voice though, it’s just a super awkward fit for me.

I loved this! I have a hard time with high angst high drama when it comes to the relationship in romances. There is no question as to how these two feel from the first. All the drama comes from external issues rather than uncertainty and miscommunication. My only issue was a small narration choice… the texts are read disjointedly as if someone were reading the words at the pace and awkward cadence of reading a text out loud as you were typing it rather than as if it was an actual conversation. It wouldn’t be such an issue except so much of the important parts of their relationship takes place in text conversations.

I loved the narration of the first two and downloaded this without reading reviews or listening to the preview because I saw the narrator hadn’t changed. Within seconds of the book starting it felt off. I’ll be returning it and reading this one as a physical book. I hope whoever told Kerr to change her style on this one isn’t a part of any remaining books in the series!

Solid book. Good of its own right but only four stars from me simply because it was hard for me *not* to compare it to The Martian, which was a GREAT book...
