Historia
A dark figure murdered Larissa Norton’s father before coming after her and her mother. To save Larissa, her mother placed her on a train, where she fell asleep and later woke up alone…and very confused. See, vampires don’t sleep. That train delivered her to the safety of a coven where witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live and learn together. She discovered the coven was more than it appeared, much more. It was a school full of orphans like her. All needing to learn how to hone their abilities and live in the world of humans.

Narrator kind of ruins it
Revisado: 04-05-24
I have had to stop listening to this book. The Narrator's voice is fantastic, but the reading is awful. She uses NO PUNCTUATION. Everything is a run on sentence, with the exception of line breaks where there is an awkward pause; as if she has come to the end of the sentence, but then keeps going. Everything is so rushed that words are literally left out of sentences so that they don't make sense. I thought I could tough it out, but I cannot. The narration has ruined the story. I might purchase the actual book to see if the story is any better without the narration provided.

Historia
Two sisters, haunted by more than their past... Just weeks after discovering each other’s existence, Jess and Hannah Ballard arrive at Fairhaven Hall, where they will learn the clandestine ways of the Durupinen, an ancient sect of women who control the Gateways between the worlds of the living and the dead. Though they are considered outcasts by most of their classmates, Jess and Hannah are determined to learn what they can to fulfill their responsibility to the many ghosts that haunt them. But danger, it seems, has followed them as closely as a shadow to their new home.

Mixed Review
Revisado: 08-22-23
I loved a different series by this author, so I tried this one out. I really don't like the narration...it really detracts from the story, so this review may have been different with a different narrator. The narrator uses an American accent but must switch between different British accents and American...her natural accent is clearly not American, and she slips into her natural accent at random times when she shouldn't. On top of that, she stumbles over words quite frequently, takes unnatural pauses, and breath intakes at inopportune times. The audio is also in and out...it's very clear for a bit, then turns muffled, then gets a little louder, then returns to normal. All in all the narration itself is so distracting from the story that I can only say I'm just not sure if I actually like the book.
