Ido in Autismland opens a window into non-verbal autism through dozens of short, autobiographical essays each offering new insights into autism symptoms, effective and ineffective treatments, and the inner emotional life of a severely autistic boy. In his pithy essays, author Ido Kedar, a brilliant 16-year-old with autism, challenges what he believes are misconceptions in many theories that dominate autism treatment today while he simultaneously chronicles his personal growth in his struggles to overcome his limitations.

Great inside view from a non- speaking person
Revisado: 03-29-24
As a parent of a non speaking ASD boy I really learned a lot. Ido and other authors like him have given parents like me a window. I know each ASD individual is different, but these books are the closest I'll ever get to inside my son's mind I feel. I didn't agree with everything, but it's not my story. ABA saved my son's life.Thank you Ido for sharing your story and advocating for people like my son! Highly recommend this book to everyone. Loved it.

Historia
In this dual polemic and manifesto, Julissa dives into and tears apart the lie that assimilation leads to belonging. She combs through history and her own story to break down this myth, arguing that assimilation is a moving finish line designed to keep Black and brown Americans and immigrants chasing racist American ideals. She talks about the Lie of Success, the Lie of Legality, the Lie of Whiteness, and the Lie of English - each promising that if you obtain these things, you will reach acceptance and won’t be an outsider anymore.

Historia
Between 1910 and 1920, vigilantes and law enforcement-including the renowned Texas Rangers - killed Mexican residents with impunity. The full extent of the violence was known only to the relatives of the victims. The Injustice Never Leaves You offers an invaluable account of why these incidents happened, what they meant at the time, and how a determined community ensured that the victims were not forgotten.

I've studied about Texas Mexican American injustices but not this far back. It's difficult to hear, but you won't be able to turn it off. Sharing with everyone I know willing to listen. The narrator did an outstanding job, her correct pronunciation was appreciated greatly. Highly recommend to everyone.

Historia
As the heyday of the Chicano Movement of the late 1960s to early '70s fades further into history and as more and more of its important figures pass on, so too does knowledge of its significance. Thus, Chicano Movement for Beginners is an important attempt to stave off historical amnesia. It seeks to shed light on the multifaceted civil rights struggle known as "El Movimiento" that galvanized the Mexican American community, from laborers to student activists, giving them not only a political voice to combat prejudice and inequality, but also a new sense of cultural awareness....

Im a beginner Chicana artist and was researching Montoya. Came across this title and wow! What a wonderful well thought out book he's gifted the community with. This book covers so much that many Chicanos know nothing of. A must read that I will pass on to my children. The narrator was spectacular. Highly recommend

Horror Comedy Vibes
Revisado: 02-01-22
Ok, so I was hesitant because of the mixed reviews. But I for one enjoyed it. Cake off as horror satire. Between the bad acting, and funny sound effects I was laughing but still wanted to know how it ends. That also was pretty predictable but again most horror comedies are.

Historia
Everyone seems to agree that we have an epidemic of what is diagnosed as autism. But, in the history of our society, there has never been "an epidemic" of any developmental or genetic disorder. Yet, over the span of thirty years, autism has gone from affecting one in 5,000 children to one in 90, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So what is this "autism", which has come to affect the lives of so many?

A diverse collection of autistic voices that highlights how parents can avoid common mistakes and misconceptions, and make their child feel truly accepted, valued, and celebrated for who they are. Most resources available for parents come from psychologists, educators, and doctors, offering parents a narrow and technical approach to autism. Sincerely, Your Autistic Child represents an authentic resource for parents written by autistic people themselves.

Misleading Title and Description
Revisado: 01-23-22
The details listed said it was based on a diverse group of Autistics. I'm almost done with the book and there have only stories told by a diverse group of FEMALE Autistics. Being I'm a parent of a nonspeaking Autistic boy this didn't ever connect with me. Still pleasant to hear some of the stories, but for the most part I just didn't want to waste the credit I used. Change the title to it's original!
