Historia
Rough-around-the-edges Harriet Morrow has long been drawn to the idea of whizzing around the city on her bicycle as a professional detective, solving crimes for a living without having to take a husband. She seizes the chance when the prestigious Prescott Agency hires her as its first woman operative. The move sparks controversy—with skeptical male colleagues, a high-strung office secretary, and her boss, Mr. Theodore Prescott, all waiting for her to unravel under the pressure.

Good first book

I liked the characters and the narration was excellent. I would prefer the story focus more on Harriet’s work and less on her sexual preference. Seems everyone in the book is homosexual and the focus was more on that and less on the actual mystery.

Rather a let down
Revisado: 07-12-24
After 4 years I expected so much more. It was a lot of reminiscing and fighting. A lot of blood shed and very little substance. It’s hard to follow who is talking even though they say at the beginning of the chapter. They all sounds the same now. I thought of stopping several times but decided to stick it just to see if it ended good, it didn’t. Despite having 4 years, this feels like it was rushed to get something out.

Historia
It has been an eventful morning for Agnes Sharp and the other inhabitants of Sunset Hall, a house share for the old and unruly in the sleepy English countryside. Although they have had some issues (misplaced reading glasses, conflicting culinary tastes, decreasing mobility, and unruly grandsons), nothing prepares them for an unexpected visit from a police officer with some shocking news. A body has been discovered next door. Everyone puts on a long face for show, but they are secretly relieved the body in question is not the one they’re currently hiding in the shed (sorry, Lillith).

Great narration, interesting mix of characters and a tortoise! I love stories involving elderly sleuths. This one leaves you wondering about the past lives of these elders. A fun mix of characters and a good storyline.

I loved everything about this book. I liked that it was done in 3 stories so we really got to know the characters. Narration is great too. I cannot wait to see what trouble Lady Augusta and Lady Julia get into next.

Historia
It’s been an enjoyable and murder-free time for Judith, Suzie and Becks since the events of last year. The most exciting thing on the horizon is the upcoming wedding of Marlow grandee, Sir Peter Bailey, to his nurse, Jenny Page. Sir Peter is having a party at his grand mansion on the river Thames the day before the wedding, and Judith and Co. are looking forward to a bit of free champagne. But during the soiree, there’s a crash from inside the house, and when the Marlow Murder Club rush to investigate, they are shocked to find the groom-to-be crushed to death in his study.

Historia
To be clear: Beatrice, Duchess of Kesgrave, does not think every dead person in London is the victim of a sinister plot. The city is large, after all, and some of its inhabitants had to have died from innocent causes. Like Peter Huzza, who was killed in a horrifying steam engine accident. It is shocking, yes, the way his body was torn apart by the explosion of his very own machine, but not entirely surprising. High-pressure steam is notoriously dangerous to harness. There is no reason to suspect foul play. Nope, none at all.

Disappointed in this one
Revisado: 05-07-23
I love this series! However, this book was a let down. I found the book to have way to much monologue and not enough substance. It seems that Beatrice now is solving things on her own in her head and Kesgrave is along for the ride. Beatrice talks on incessently either in her head or aloud. Kesgrave is now just following her around throwing out his power as a Duke when needed and the rest of the time he is seducing his bride.
I hope the next book is more like the earlier ones with lots of people involved and more action.

Historia
When stylish young bibliophile Julia Kydd returns to 1920s New York, she’s determined to launch her own private press. Julia’s aspirations take her into the heart of the Harlem Renaissance, a literary movement unlike any she’s known - where notions of race, sexuality, and power are slippery, and identities can be deceptively fluid.

I loved the first Julia Kydd book. This one takes a long time to get to the point. Great depiction of the time period and the “novelty” of Negros. Hopefully the next book will move along at a better pace.
Sarah Zimmerman is a great narrator!

Okay if you like long drawn out stories
Revisado: 07-09-22
After the first book dragged on I thought the 2nd would be better. It’s exactly the same. The story is dragging on as though the author isn’t sure where they want to take it. The narrator is another reason it’s hard to listen. Her American accents are torture. I will cross this series off my list.
