Overall happy
Revisado: 04-07-25
This book was an unexpected find at a local book shop and since I rarely read physical books I was happy to see there was an audiobook. Overall I was really happy to see a book discussing depression, boundaries and honesty of challenges faced being BIPOC or Queer. Would I have loved to see that even more, yes, but I am still overall happy with this read. The one big thing that drove me nuts though is it’s a tattoo machine, not a gun!

Historia
We live in an age of diagnosis. Conditions like ADHD and autism are on the rapid rise, while new categories like long Covid are being created. Medical terms are increasingly used to describe ordinary human experiences, and the advance of sophisticated genetic sequencing techniques means that even the healthiest of us may soon be screened for potential abnormalities. More people are labeled "sick" than ever before—but are these diagnoses improving their lives?

Interesting though ableist
Revisado: 03-31-25
As a family medicine physician with a chronic medical conditions I was very curious when I saw this book at a local bookstore. Though I absolutely agree there is over diagnosis rampant in the medical field, I was disappointed in the ableist mindset view of a young person having a chronic medical condition/s. I received my first chronic condition diagnosis when I was in late elementary school with symptoms going on since I was 4 years old. I never felt my diagnosis held me back beyond contact sports. I appreciate the push for autonomy and giving patients “permission to say no” when it comes to testing. This book will absolutely impact questions I will bring up with patients in my practice, but hope the author’s perspective will grow because my chronic medical conditions aren’t just in my head.

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Revisado: 12-16-22
I saw this book at the Art of Animation shop last time I was at Disney Springs. I went back and forth on purchasing the book when I first saw it as I'm almost a strictly audio book person now a days. A few months from when I last saw this book I decided why not look to see if there's an audio version. Ahh, I was so glad and quickly listened through the book in just a few days. The narration was quite perfectly toned. It wasn't until I was an adult well into my current career that I fell back in love with Disney and part of my heart wanted me to go back to get a different degree so I could become an Imagineer. Though I strongly doubt that'll ever happen, this book spoke to my heart as I'm also in a traditionally male dominant field. The passion and perseverance simply lifted me when I needed it the most. I hope this book does inspire others to pursue their Disney dream. Thank you authors for sparking that Disney love in me even more.

Loved the beginning...
Revisado: 03-16-21
Was very excited to finally dive into this book and absolutely loved the beginning. Towards the middle and the end of the boom, sadly felt clunky and drawn out about very specific details on tons of different cases. I'm sure there are people who loved learning about this, but sadly wasn't for me. Audiobook itself kept me going through this because it were a paperback I for sure would have put it down.

A different kind of prescription
Revisado: 09-25-20
I'm a physician who had an unexpected hospitalization and soon there after started my experience with anxiety attacks and panic attacks, particularly when I would drive. I was desperate to find some thing to build on the daily mediation I had started to learn how to work with my anxiety. There were several parallels between techniques I was taught in my guided meditation practice and the techniques in this book which to me solidified that these techniques work. I'm still on the road to full recovery, but I'm able to drive again (usually with the radio on full blast to sing away my anxious tension).
My own experience now as me looking at anxiety in such a new light compared to what I was taught in medical school. I have already recommended this book to multiple friends and patients because I truly believe the psychological understanding and approach the DARE response has when it comes to facing your fear of anxiety. Yes is it a bit self promotional happy throughout the book when it comes to the app, but I feel the author is trying every avenue to reach people.
I hope to continue to prescribe this book to patients in the future.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

I've truly enjoyed listening to the series again on audiobook as an adult. To me, the 5th book is one of the harder ones to get through but the narrator is fantastic.
