Excellent captivating narration
Revisado: 02-27-25
This book is very captivating and informative . If sheds light on Tudor court and its main protagonist
It inspires respect for any woman who would dare to be married to Henry VIII and describes the impossible situation women found themselves in those times in general, especially gentry and royalty , women were just pawns for their families on their way to gain status and wealth
Married at 12 , most of them dead in child bed by age 30
It truly was surviving of the fittest

Stereotypical damsel in distress heroin
Revisado: 01-31-25
I want my money back !
If this is supposed to be satire on cheep woman’s romance novels , well
The author succeeded
Starting with the stereotypical damsel in distress , feel sorry for me , heroin
Spoiler alert
Poor in debt to the bone
Mother died
No fatter
Predictably meets strapping handsome Scott / Irish man and comes to inheritance
The authors spends pages and pages on description of desolate situation of the heroin and the riches she came to
I really want to finish this book
But I simply can not

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-09-24
I was eagerly anticipating this book , unfortunately it left me disappointed
In my opinion , it lacks the depth of characters and characteristic Pendergast wit and clever story moreover , it portraits DeAgosta as a cliche of aging out of shape “ cop”
Did the authors hire a creative team to write this book ?
There might be something to stopping the train, while one still is on it ….

Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Grace’s weekly attic-room dinner parties and window-brewed sun tea become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret of her own.

Historia
England, 1881. Hereford Cathedral stands sentinel over the city, keeping its secrets, holding long forgotten souls in its stony embrace. Hecate Cavendish speeds through the cobbled streets on her bicycle, skirts hitched daringly high, heading for her new life as Assistant Librarian. But this is no ordinary collection of books. The cathedral houses an ancient chained library, wisdom guarded for centuries, mysteries and stories locked onto its worn, humble shelves. The most prized artifact, however, is the medieval world map which hangs next to Hecate’s desk.

Disappointed
Revisado: 08-11-24
I was eagerly anticipating this book !
Unfortunately , in comparison to Paula Bracksons earlier books,
I found the story lacking
Maybe, because I loved so much “ The witches daughter “ series and Silver witch and Winter witch
That story line and character development was truly phenomenal
This book, in my opinion is more suited for young adult audience
Hekate seemed much too immature for young woman of 22
Perhaps , this book is an introduction to a story yet to come ?

The narrator!

I found The book is surprisingly the best from the entire series
The flawed characters , you can love them and then dislike them , the development of story and the narrator has come a long way since Daughters of Rome !

Likable flawed characters
Revisado: 07-18-24
This series , in my pinion , is getting better with each book
It took will power to get used to the narrator and make it through the first half of the first book ( Daughters of Rome- the female characters sounded daft )
The books and the narrator are getting better and better
Good insight to history ( made prettier of course )
And semi predictable , but enjoyable story

Entertaining story over the top Narrator
Revisado: 07-10-24
The story is very entertaining and surprisingly fresh and unpredictable
Some good history mixed with romance without explicit details
However , the narrator is bit much
Makes the female protagonists sound daft and dim witted
Her female voices need time getting used to
I stopped listening once , before gridding my teeth and finishing the book
