Historia
It's 1934. Businesses went under by the hundreds, debt and foreclosures boomed, and breadlines grew in many American cities. In the midst of this misery, some folks explored unscrupulous ways to make money. Angel-faced John Partlow and carnival huckster Ginger LaFrance are among the worst of this lot. Joining together they leave their small-time confidence scams behind to attempt an elaborate kidnapping-for-ransom scheme in New Orleans.

Reading a book by author Robert McCammon is a lot like life - or a box of chocolates, if you prefer - you never know what you're going to get. Unlike life or chocolates, I know that a book by McCammon will provide this reader with a very satisfactory experience. 'The Listener ' is no exception. It's one of those books that left me thinking about the masterful plot and how the characters were expertly crafted in and out of the story.
If you are looking for a great book, I highly recommend 'The Listener' by Robert McCammon. I also recommend the audio book performed by Marc Vietor. His presentation is excellent! -Mr.Bill

This is a very entertaining and quirky (in a good way) book. I loved it. Imagine waking up from cryo sleep - and you don't even know what cryo sleep is - yet! The characters are a diverse group of aliens and a robot with exceptional skills in avoiding a straight answer. I loved it. There is a lot of action, so not all fun and games. If you read any books by writers J. N. Chaney or Rick Partlow, you know it will be good. The audio book performed by John Pirhalla is excellent.

What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back....

The title, "The Seventh Victim (Texas Rangers Book 1)," captured my interest. The story absolutely lived up to my expectations. From the title, it was obvious to me that this was a book about serial killer(s). In this book, writer Mary Burton created great characters who did not betray their role in the story. In other words, the Texas Rangers did not have any superpowers, except training and common sense (which I've heard may actually be a superpower). If you enjoy a good suspenseful mystery, check out "The Seventh Victim" by Mary Burton. I also highly recommend the audio book performed by Joanna Parker.

Revisado: 06-11-25
It's like coming home to family. As a fan of author Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite, you kinda know what to expect - but there will always be surprises. In 'Dead Draw', Tracy Crosswhite finds herself facing a character from her past. Obsessed with her skills as a champion marksman, it pushes his twisted mind to destroy everything she values, including her life. Unlike a family visit, once you start reading 'Dead Draw', there will be no time to kick back and relax. I recommend the Audiobook performed by the talented and familiar voice of Emily Sutton-Smith. - Mr.Bill

Revisado: 06-02-25
'Teleport 2: Into the Darkness' will give the reader more details about the nuts & bolts on this adventure than some may like. Writer Joshua T. Calvert puts a lot of effort into capturing the utter strangeness that the team encounters as they 'teleport' into a place, not knowing what they will encounter. I don't read or watch science-fiction thinking it will provide me with more science than fiction. Neither do I try to find a spiritual message based on science or fiction in this genre. In this case, I simply enjoyed the otherworldly or dimensional journey that Calvert took me on. I'll definitely continue with the series, but I will not be using quantum physics textbooks to check his work. About halfway through the book, I realized that there was an audio book available. It is well worth adding to your library. The performance is by Eric Altheide.

This is an excellent story and presentation! The premise of this book could be hurtful to those who have encountered abuse. However, this is a story about survival, fortitude, and a never quit attitude. Things do not always end neatly. Evil has no constraint. This story leaves no doubt.
Authors L.T. Ryan and C.R. Gray as Maddie Castle have written a book that was difficult for me to put down. Along with the outstanding audible performance by Katie Hagaman, 'Field of Bones' exceeded my expectations. -Mr.Bill

Tracey Kavanagh was her usual upbeat self - right up until the moment she drowned her son and tied a rope around her neck, killing herself and her unborn child. For Alex Moreton, this case couldn't have come at a worse time. Battling with her partner over whether to have another child, she is superstitious about pushing their luck - they're happy enough as they are...aren't they?

Alistor Austin is one of the best. His performance is perfect in "Fragile Cord".
Revisado: 05-20-25
As the name of the book indicates, this is a 'psychological thriller'. In my opinion, "Fragile Cord" by Emma Salisbury is a very good one! I was so caught up in the investigation by DS Coupland that I started to believe that his investigation would lead to some type of unnatural forces at play. I guess other readers will have to weigh in on that.
I read this book in almost one sitting. If this were a movie, I would have skipped snacks and restroom breaks to not break the intensity.
As in life, there are always other things going on. It's these other things that keep this book 'real'. The intensity of one's job does not replace life. As Beatle John Lennon wrote in a song for his baby son, "...life is what happens while you're busy making other plans...". "Fragile Cord: A gripping psychological thriller (DS Coupland Book 1)" keeps it real. I'm looking forward to reading Book 2, "A Place of Safety."
I recommend the audible book performed by one of my favorites, Alistor Austin, do not miss it. -Mr.Bill

Revisado: 05-01-25
I have read a number of books by author Robert Dugoni. I have no hesitation picking up a novel with his name on the cover. I was not aware of the subject matter for the book, "Hold Strong." However, it didn’t take long to realize that the story takes place in the aftermath of the Great Depression and other destabilizing events happening throughout the world. Most agree that it was these events that became the catalysts to the second World War which began in 1939.
As with most books written by Dugoni, after reading a few pages I was hooked “Hold Strong” is a story about the effects on a young couple and other families that are struggling because of the depression. Torn apart by WWII, their lives are radically changed, as were millions of others.
There are a lot of historical events that take place as Dugoni tells the story. Truthfully, I would really enjoy seeing a movie based on this book. It IS that good.
Robert Dugoni, along with Jeff Langholz and Chris Crabtree, have written one of the best historical non-fiction books I’ve read in a long time. There is an audio book narrated by Will Damron that makes the events in the books come to life. Don’t miss reading this book! – Mr.Bill
