Historia
Xlina’s move to Portland, Maine was supposed to be the start of a new life. A normal life. One that didn’t involve her magical-duty-obsessed druid father or her own legacy as a descendant of the Baku: an ancient creature that consumes nightmares. But when the supposed social worker who pointed her toward Portland in the first place turns out to be not-so-human and puts a demon mark on Xlina’s soul, a normal life looks a lot less likely. To survive, she just might need to start listening to necromancer Oxivius, who wants her to embrace her power instead of running from it.

On the fence.
Revisado: 05-11-22
The plot to this book was great and I felt like it had so much potential. The author created a fantastic world with amazing creatures, but....
It read like a man's fantasy of what women do at slumber parties. Xelina was clearly interested in Ox as well as Amber, however her inexperience with relationships held her back. Somehow this didn't stop her from becoming naked and intimate on some level with all three women that Xelina met throughout the story...but not Ox? She's clearly bi, but doesn't know it, and only gets physical with the women she meets. The whole thing was more than a little far fetched...like oops, all my clothes fell off, let's make out.
It also bothered me that there seemed to be several words repeated over and over throughout the story. I felt like if I heard the word maw one more time I'd scream. Switch it up...mouth, jaw, orifice, food hole, gullet...I could go on. Also, quip, that one was used a lot!
The narrator did a good job with the accents and bringing the characters to life, but the sound of heavy breathing and inhales detracted from the audible often.
Overall, the story was worth finishing for the awesome plot alone, but due to the ridiculous unnecessary and far fetched sexual scenarios Xelina continually finds herself in, I don't know if I'll read the rest of the series.

Historia
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

This type of story isn't normally my jam. I stumbled across it accidentally, tossed it in my library, and once I started it, I couldn't stop. Not only is the story well told and captivating, but the narrator's voice is as smooth as honey.

Historia
Amelia: Lego sets, Star Trek and junk food in my pajamas, these used to be how I would spend my safe and lazy days off. Now, what am I doing with my time? High-speed chases, running from Hellhounds, fighting witches, opening boxes that threaten the entire Vampire race, and stabbing bitches with my shoes. But hey, at least I get to wear a pretty dress on my date. Now all I can hope for is that it isn’t one where people end up shooting at us again. That would be nice. And all this was because I fell in love with a Vampire King. A Vampire King, who claimed me.

Snore, the narration is so bad
Revisado: 01-13-22
I've read and listened to both the Transfusion and Afterlife saga. If this new narrator does the rest of the Transfusion series, there is no way I'll be able to get through the rest. She makes the story just sound like a jumble of words, and it's hard to concentrate on what omis being said. On the plus side, if you're looking to fall asleep, this is the story to listen to.

Historia
I never thought I could love a monster. Then I met Machi. I shouldn't have been there that night. I shouldn't have seen that man die - or the face of his killer. Every part of me wanted to run and hide, to escape and forget what I saw. But then he caught me. He stole me and pushed me into his world. He wants me to believe that he isn't the bad guy. But I know better. Except...his hard jaw and full lips are hard to ignore, his voice makes my heart flutter, and his hands - his hands are purely toxic, unfurling my body with one touch.

There was so much wrong with this story, I honestly am at a loss for words. The biggest thing for me was how unbelievable the characters acted in their situations.

Tedious and disgusting
Revisado: 11-05-21
If you got rid of all of the overly descriptive sex scenes, this book would amount to a 1 hour of redundant story of rapey slightly abusive college men who like drunk college girls, female leads who are stupid nieve women, and boring descriptions of everything happening in the room.
The narrator was the only redeeming thing about this book.

Great Plot
Revisado: 10-30-21
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the long winded scenes. Not only did this book have some of THE LONGEST most detailed sex scenes I've ever read, it also had several other drawn out scenes. They were a little over the top and I just wanted to shout, "I get it already, I don't need an in depth explanation of everything!"
Other than that, I loved the stories and the characters.

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

Cute and light
Revisado: 10-05-21
This is a cute, if not predictable, chic lit. The constant self doubting and reminiscing of her past is a little dull and annoying, but it's not enough to wreck the story completely.

Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. About as satisfying as a rice cake
Revisado: 10-02-21
When the reviews say that this book ended abruptly, they weren't joking.
I never mind a good cliff hanger, but the first book generally needs to have some kind of hook to pull me in to the next story. This lacked in so many ways.
