Page turner

I couldn’t wait to get back to listening to the story every time I had a chance. The characters and storylines kept me coming back and wanting more. The mystery of the ultimate outcome was nicely carried out throughout the book. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Tears of joy or sorrow is for you to find out!

Historia
A gripping tale of survival and an epic love story in which a husband and wife, separated by the only battle of World War II to take place on American soil, fight to reunite in Alaska's starkly beautiful Aleutian Islands. Following the death of his younger brother in Europe, journalist John Easley is determined to find meaning in his loss. Leaving behind his beloved wife, Helen, after an argument they both regret, he heads north from Seattle to investigate the Japanese invasion of Alaska's Aleutian Islands, a story censored by the U.S. government.

Well written and read. A real joy. Recommended by a friend and so glad I followed her lead. Want to read more about this theatre of WWII. Can't help but feel a bit in touch w/ the realities of these characters though, no doubt, the surface is only being scratched from what they truly had to endure and live w/ beyond the war. That is if they survived at all. So many gave so much so we can be free.

Historia
Barry Laverty, M.B., can barely find the village of Ballybucklebo on a map when he first sets out to seek gainful employment there, but already he knows that there is nowhere he would rather live than in the emerald hills and dales of Northern Ireland. The proud owner of a spanking-new medical degree and little else in the way of worldly possessions, Barry jumps at the chance to secure a position as an assistant in a small rural practice. At least until he meets Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly.

Sweet story

Very telling about the different people we all are yet how similar we are when it comes down to the basics of life. We want, food, shelter, love, respect & our dignity. A great casual read or listen.

Historia
Her name is Omakayas, or Little Frog, because her first step was a hop, and she lives on an island in Lake Superior. It is 1850 and the lives of the Ojibwe have returned to a familiar rhythm: they build their birchbark houses in the summer, go to the ricing camps in the fall to harvest and feast, and move to their cozy cedar log cabins near the town of LaPointe before the first snows.

Birchbark House was my 1st read by L. Erdrich. It was enjoyable but The Game of Silence was captivating. Even listened to & read some archived articles about Erdrich and am now looking forward to diving into some more of her books. I think next up will be Round House.
