Historia
Monty Bodkin loves Gertrude, who thinks he likes Lotus Blossom, a starlet who definitely adores Ambrose, who thinks that she has a thing for his brother, Reggie, who is struck by Mabel Spence, sister-in-law of Ikey Llewellyn (movie mogul, Ambrose’s prospective employer and reluctant smuggler), but hasn’t the means to marry her. With well-meaning but unhelpful ship’s steward Albert Peasemarch and a toy mouse thrown in for good measure, it will take the luck of the Bodkins to sort it all out.

Historia
In this escapade, the Junior Ganymede Club (Jeeves's association of butlers and valets) is revealed to be an arm of the British intelligence service. Jeeves must ferret out a Fascist spy, and only his hapless employer can help. Unfolding in the background are school-chum capers, affairs of the heart, drawing-room escapades, antics with aunts, and sartorial set-tos.

Definitely classic Wodehousian and yet with a new
Revisado: 11-19-18
I admire Wodehouse's brand of humor and this book definitely captured the flavor of that, while, at the same time, extending the odd bunch of characters associated with Jeeves and Wooster into new territory. Both of the main characters showed more seriousness, depth and range, without losing their basic personalities. Perhaps Bertie is just growing up a little bit - which would please Aunt Dahlia. I loved it! Hope there will be more stories.

Historia
In The Bughouse Affair, this first of a new series of lighthearted historical mysteries set in 1890s San Francisco, former Pinkerton operative Sabina Carpenter and her detective partner, ex-Secret Service agent John Quincannon, undertake what initially appear to be two unrelated investigations. Sabina's case involves the hunt for a ruthless lady "dip" who uses fiendish means to relieve her victims of their valuables at Chutes Amusement Park and other crowded places. Quincannon, meanwhile, is after a slippery housebreaker who targets the homes of wealthy residents.

Great story, but confusing narration

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
There were two narrators, but each did all the parts in the section they read. I would have preferred that the lead characters - the two main detectives - Carpenter and Quincannon - were read with the same voice.

It's the end of the roaring twenties, and the exuberant and Honourable Phryne Fisher is dancing and gaming with gay abandon. But she becomes bored with London and the endless round of parties. In search of excitement, she sets her sights on a spot of detective work in Melbourne, Australia. And so mystery and the beautiful Russian dancer, Sasha de Lisse, appear in her life. From then on it's all cocaine and communism until her adventure reaches its steamy end in the Turkish baths of Little Lonsdale Street.

Great Beginnig
Revisado: 01-09-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Cocaine Blues to be better than the print version?
I recently read or listened to the entire series of Phryne Fisher books by Kerry Greenwood in chronological order. I highly recommend doing it in order. I own about half of them and got the others from my library. Some were books and some were audiobooks on Audible.com or on CD. I think that listening to the books adds a great deal to the stories, since they are performed so well. The performance adds depth and definition to the characters and gives you a better feeling for the setting and the story line. As the first book in the series, listening to Cocaine Blues sets you up for visualizing the characters in other books, even if you are just reading them. Doing a mixture of both kept the characters fresh in my mind and helped define their personalities.
Any additional comments?
The Phryne Fisher mysteries are fun to read and give you a lot of background on Melbourne and other parts of Australia in the 1928+ era. The descriptions of clothes, food, settings, and activities are very interesting, and enhance what are good, light mysteries. There are recipes for cocktails, which is entertaining even if you do not plan to try them and adds to the story.

With Morning Comes Mistfall
Revisado: 01-09-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It was not a bad story line, but may simply be a genre and setting in which I have little interest. As a short story, the end was too predictable, especially since the main characters pretty clearly delineated what would happen from the beginning of it. I would have preferred more character development, and a different dénouement.
Was With Morning Comes Mistfall: Free Story worth the listening time?
I would not choose to listen to another story by this author, but it is interesting to listen to or read new authors. The story was written and read in a way that made the futuristic material seem believable and simply part of the story, rather than something outside of one's experience.
