Love Sam and this series, but this one was overly dramatic and just not credible. Not her best.

The manor has an interesting history - originally built in 1628 in England, there's a murderous legend and curse attached to the mansion. Melville, however, wants Lockwood's help in a legal matter - righting a wrongful conviction from his days as a DA.

Pleasant but not her best. Kind of repetitive and a little forced. And just not as charming as most of her stories

This should have been an epilogue, revisiting the characters and tying the loose ends into happy endings. A waste of a credit

Really implausible and annoying
Revisado: 05-30-21
I generally really enjoy MKA but this story is just so silly and unbelievable. What made it annoying—the narrator’s voicing of the four year old character, who is prone to meltdowns. Enough to put your teeth on edge.

What a waste
Revisado: 01-31-14
The original wasn't great literature, but it was fun and lively. If you're expecting more of the same, stop before you buy. This was phoned in. A ridiculous story, poorly written, vapid characters. Save your money.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Historia
The last thing Boston Detective D. D. Warren remembers is walking the crime scene after dark. Then, a creaking floorboard, a low voice crooning in her ear… She is later told she managed to discharge her weapon three times. All she knows is that she is seriously injured, unable to move her left arm, unable to return to work. My sister is Shana Day, a notorious murderer who first killed at fourteen. Incarcerated for thirty years, she has now murdered more people while in prison than she did as a free woman.

Ghoulish and repetitve

I like this series but this was a disappointment. Very violent and ghoulish series of crimes, and the plot was repetitive. Narrator's presentation of one of the main characters was affected and annoying.

Historia
Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Tedious and unbelievable
Revisado: 03-03-13
I was about 1/3 through and finding this book pretty uninteresting. So I checked the reviews and they were generally positive. So I stuck it through to the end. What a mistake! The underlying premise of the story and rationale for the kidnapping is strong. But the prison scenes are dull, repetitive and tedious and they are a majority of the story. Very slow pace. Then the author needs to make the big reveal and wrap it all up and that happens quickly and with some flat out unbelievable plot turns. The characters are flat and I found myself not caring about any of them. The surprising twist wasn't a surprise at all--who else could have hatched the kidnap plan? I have enjoyed Gardner's other books but will think twice before ordering again.
