Historia
In 1979, Vincent Bianco has just graduated high school. His only desire: collect a little beer money and enjoy his final summer before college. So he lands a job as a laborer on a construction crew. Working alongside two Vietnam vets, one suffering from PTSD, Vincent gets the education of a lifetime. Now forty years later, with his own son leaving for college, the lessons of that summer - Vincent’s last taste of innocence and first taste of real life - dramatically unfold in a novel about breaking away, shaping a life, and seeking one’s own destiny.

What an amazing book! I had cousins as Navy Seals in Vietnam. Only w/the help of libations, would they talk about their time there. This book gives me some of the missing pieces that my cousins left out.
Another fulfilling Dugoni book!

Love it!
Revisado: 01-31-22
As a spinner, knitter, and weaver, I have loved this series on more than one level. I can’t wait to go to Shetland in the next couple of years and experience the ferries and flying onto these small islands, the rolling seas, and the wind. I want to see the crofts and the sheep, and drink the beer in the pubs. I can’t wait!!

Historia
In North Devon, where two rivers converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his estranged father’s funeral takes place. On the day Matthew left the strict evangelical community he grew up in, he lost his family, too. Now, as he turns and walks away again, he receives a call from one of his team. A body has been found on the beach nearby: a man with a tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death. The case calls Matthew back to the people and places of his past, as deadly secrets hidden at their hearts are revealed.

Good story and reader
Revisado: 01-01-22
I enjoyed this book - my first of any of Ann Cleeves. Ben Aldridge did a fine job of expressing the change of characters, scenery, and the pain involved in Matthew’s background. I’ve already ordered the next book but I’m disappointed that Mr. Aldridge isn’t carried over to it. Fingers crossed that I can make it through this change as I felt he did such a good performance.

Historia
Aurora is a small town nestled in the ancient forest alongside the shores of Minnesota’s Iron Lake. In the summer of 1963, it is the whole world to 12-year-old Cork O’Connor, its rhythms as familiar as his own heartbeat. But when Cork stumbles upon the body of a man he revered hanging from a tree in an abandoned logging camp, it is the first in a series of events that will cause him to question everything he took for granted about his hometown, his family, and himself.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I have loved this book! Hanks did an excellent job reading but then again he could read me the back of a cereal box and I would be enthralled! Patchett’s writing doesn’t disappoint, either! Well done on both the written and verbal parts of this performance!
