Historia
Fourteen-year-old Greg Dixon is living a nightmare. Attending boarding school outside of Boston, he is separated from his family when a pandemic strikes. His classmates and teachers are dead, rotting in a dormitory-turned-morgue steps from his room. The nights are getting colder, and his food has run out. The last message from his father is to get away from the city and to meet at his grandparents' town in remote New Hampshire.

Not enough conflict
Revisado: 01-14-24
I enjoyed this story but I kept anticipating some issue that would make it more interesting but it just never happened. It was all just details about the daily activities of the group. I enjoyed it to a certain extent but eventually I’d had enough. Reminded me of the Swiss Family Robinson in that regard. Oh you’re hungry? Look we found a field of naturally growing potatoes. There just wasn’t enough struggle for me. I don’t regret finishing the book but I won’t read it again and I probably won’t recommend it.

Historia
In the far-future aftermath of a genetic plague that separated human society into two different groups—sickly yet super-intelligent Subterraneans and healthy but weak-minded Omniterraneans—a brilliant Subter girl is tasked with fixing the broken genetic code to reunite the two groups in the next generation. But when a newer plague turns fatal for the surface-dwelling Omnits, the only group able to reproduce (giving birth to both Subter and Omnit children), Zuzan must find a cure or humanity won't simply remain divided, it will become extinct.

Good world building for a standalone book
Revisado: 01-14-24
I enjoyed the story including the world building. The performance was well done. I enjoyed the story, it was just a little too YA for me to give it a 5 but I think it’s well worth the time to listen.

Paranoid internal dialogue
Revisado: 12-25-14
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Didn't finish it.
What about Daniel Thomas May’s performance did you like?
The narrator is great in this series.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Eh, no. Not even a little. I barely made it through the first book but this second book, I just gave up maybe 1/3 of the way in. There is just too much internal dialogue and it's really hard to follow this guys mindset.
Any additional comments?
Like others have said, this story is interesting but I really wish the main character would just shut up sometimes. In my opinion there isn't nearly enough interaction with the other characters or action for that matter. The times between things actually happening in the book are entirely too far apart. Add to that that we're inside this guys head pretty much that whole time... Ugh. I just couldn't. I guess this might be an attempt to get us into the frame of mind of the character but I found myself constantly rolling my eyes. He's paranoid, jumping to conclusions, self criticizing, a braggart, etc etc etc all in the space of 30 seconds. Couldn't follow, didn't care enough to continue listening.

Historia
When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Yes, that good!
Revisado: 06-10-14
What made the experience of listening to Patient Zero the most enjoyable?
It's a gripping, well told, well thought out story that is also surprisingly funny. I could have done without the smidgen of romance. I didn't feel like it added to the story in any more than the hero gets the girl kind of way.
What other book might you compare Patient Zero to and why?
This isn't my typical genre so I don't really have anything to compare it to.
What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?
He is Joe Ledger. I loved the cockiness!

Historia
On the alien, sunless planet they call Eden, the 532 members of the Family shelter beneath the light and warmth of the Forest's lantern trees. Beyond the Forest lie the mountains of the Snowy Dark and a cold so bitter and a night so profound that no man has ever crossed it. The Oldest among the Family recount legends of a world where light came from the sky, where men and women made boats that could cross the stars. These ships brought us here, the Oldest say - and the Family must only wait for the travelers to return.

I hated this book at first!
Revisado: 06-04-14
Where does Dark Eden rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's just below Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles
Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to giveaway anything!
Any additional comments?
I hated the pronunciation of the words in the beginning but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Once you get used to the pronunciation it's not as annoying. Really well told. I really liked that there were so many actors.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Where does The Name of the Wind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I haven't listened to a ton of audiobooks but I thought this was well done. I liked the different voices the narrator chose for the characters.
What did you like best about this story?
The epicness of the story. I wanted Kvothe to never end his story.
