For now, this is my review: though the heroes struggle, and it might not be my absolute favorite story, it's an excellent adventure and I recommend it, regardless of your interest.

I originally used this book during my intro to ethics course my last semester at college. I was so impressed with this guide, I wanted to go through it again. I think this book provides excellent advice for those seeking to think and behave ethically. Thank you!

Overall, 5 stars. I just thought it took a while for the story to get going...like up until halfway it felt like. Like Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy really did his research! Though I knock it a bit for the pretty slow build, I at least learn a TON about naval warfare, jets, ships, and of course submarines. Turned into a solid thriller by the end. Special shout-out to Scott Brick who impressed me with his performance in so many different accents...really supported the action of the book. Great story, and you won't be disappointed.

Quite the story! I love movies, and generally have a belief that a book needs to be better and more complete than the movie based on the book, since there's more time to develop characters and to tell the story...this holds true for Jurassic Park.

I'm not surprised that this is such a popular and successful story, it was a gripping thriller from start to finish. Crichton masterfully takes a premise that, in other hands might seem a little too far-fetched, and makes you believe it. It's a strangely easy world to enter that he creates. Because of this ease to suspend disbelief, the horror and thrills of this book keep you interested and engaged from start to finish.

I defend movie adaptations of books quite frequently. I believe some are really good, but acknowledge others just don't work. In the case of Spielberg's film, I think it's a really good representation of the book. I say this, for those who are wondering if listening to this book will ruin your perception of the movie. I'm here to tell you it won't. For the most part, the movie adapts the book in the best way. The only better way would be to make a 5-6 hour movie to cover all the extra details and goings on. The only real big difference between book and movie is the ending. I see why the movie went with it's ending, and I'm unsure which ending I prefer. You might be surprised that overall, the movie was much tamer and less horrifying than the book...but in Spielberg's defense, it's easier to do that with a 15-hour listen than a 2-hour runtime.

Hats off to Crichton for a truly excellent thriller, "what if" scenario, and thought-provoking adventure!

This was an entertaining listen. I was always guessing and second guessing what was going to happen. Overall, I can't say it was my favorite story, but it was a thrill ride and mystery throughout, and I was quite entertained.

Ocean's 11...in the 1850s

Yes, this is worth the read. Though the introduction makes you think you're in for a slow ride, the story is fairly fast-paced throughout (with the occasional, and after fascinating, tangents about how criminals worked in the day, or why things were the way they were). The non-linear storytelling also kept me guessing throughout. I was told this was less of a thriller and more of a caper, and to that I would say: Think Ocean's 11 in the 1850s...which was just as entertaining of a heist story. Enjoy!

Yeah, I'd say it's a thriller. Definitely reminded me of Jurassic Park. The build-up of the situation, the surprise events, the craftily placed interviews and journal entries...an entertaining ride. About as brutal and dark as World War Z (though smaller scale), which is significant, at least for me. Also like World War Z, it takes an unapologetic look at what could happen to humanity, when faced with a crisis. For as dark as the story turns, I can't say I loved the ending, but I will definitely acknowledge it was very well done. Like another review pointed out, it was the Sasquatch thriller/horror, I didn't know I was missing, haha. Enjoy!

It's a 5 out 5, though out of 10, it's more like a 9, or even 8.5 (I just felt 4/5 or 8/10 was too low).

Overall, it's one heck of a mystery thriller. Lots of action, twists, turns, misdirection, and intriguing deductive reasoning. About a quarter of the way in, up to the middle, gets pretty dry, but it makes sense why later. I had to restart again, because I left it alone for a bit. There's a bit here and there that feels like unnecessary tangents or storylines, but it does say "unabridged," so it's hard to complain about that. Still, an awesome story, and I was entertained with the result. It was fun trying to figure out the story, and while Reacher is hardly a relatable character, the detective and ex-M.P. reasoning, planning, and descriptions were for the most part fascinating. When the mystery is all pieced together, I walked away satisfied-- it had to be good, given all the craziness that was going on in the story, and it was.

As a side note, I was only interested in listening to this book after I loved the Tom Cruise movie "Jack Reacher," and wanted to see what the books were like. No idea how they picked Cruise initially (size wise, Lee Child's Reacher is like twice the size), but dang, he made it a good movie. That's based off the book "One Shot," so that's probably the other book I'll listen to about Reacher.

This book masterfully draws in it's readers through nothing but scattered journal entries, memorandums and newspaper clippings---a choice that truly makes this story a gripping thriller, forcing the listener to piece together the parts of the story that are only implied, keeping you in constant anticipation for the next moments.

Growing up, I didn't think much of Dracula, considering him to be one of the more, dare I say "lame" of the common villains and monsters of my childhood, thinking him to be nothing more than some lovestruck dead guy with sharp teeth, who sleeps all day and is easily avoidable (just watch out for bats and coffins, and you're safe) ...I now see Dracula as one of the most cunning and purely evil villains of any story. The characters of the story are incredibly real, and it's an amazing experience that you share with them. I found myself constantly routing for the heroes, whilst dying of the anxiety of knowing what they don't suspect. And hats off to the great performances of the cast.

I was surprised again and again by how perfectly told this story was. I 100% recommend this book, and guarantee a real thriller!
