Historia
If you caught a glimpse of heaven, would you choose to comeback to life?
Investigative journalist Judy Bachrach has collected accounts of those who died and then returned to life with lucid, vivid memories of what occurred while they were dead, and the conclusions are astonishing. Clinical death - the moment when the heart stops beating and brain stem activity ceases - is not necessarily the end of consciousness, as a number of doctors are now beginning to concede.

Historia
Early on the morning of February 17, 1970, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, a Green Beret doctor named Jeffrey MacDonald called the police for help. When the officers arrived at his home they found the bloody and battered bodies of MacDonald's pregnant wife and two young daughters. The word "pig" was written in blood on the headboard in the master bedroom. As MacDonald was being loaded into the ambulance, he accused a band of drug-crazed hippies of the crime.

Ok, but some real turnoffs
Revisado: 03-25-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No.
I had no problem allowing for the fact that this book was written several decades ago. It COULD have been worth reading anyway.
While I find the situations very believable (I've been in healthcare for 35+ years), the writer gets too carried away with his own sexual fantasies/supposed prowess to the point where my mind wandered due to boredom.
Narration was good other than the same complaint I have with many narrators who read books by healthcare professionals: If you are going to narrate a book by a doctor, learn how to pronounce medical terminology correctly for Pete's sake!
What did you like best about this story?
Most of the interpersonal dynamics and the staff's conversations and personal thoughts were very believable.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes.
Was The House of God worth the listening time?
No.
Any additional comments?
Still believable in spite of being written years ago and would have kept my attention if not for the far-too-many sex scenes that sounded as if they were written by a Harlequin romance novelist wannabe.

I work with medical terminology and this book helped me go further in depth with familiar terms. I would also recommend for anyone unfamiliar with "docspeak" who finds medicine fascinating. Written for everyone.

Hard to get past the narrator
Revisado: 11-03-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I think DBT is great and the author probably does a pretty good job of explaining the basics, but the narrator is awful! She has a very condescending way of reading, emphasizing in exactly the right places to make the reader cringe. One of worst narrations I've heard.
What did you like best about this story?
I think it would be a good book in print.
How could the performance have been better?
If narrator had kept in mind she was reading to adults.
Did Calming the Emotional Storm inspire you to do anything?
Make sure I don't purchase another audiobook narrated by this person.
