If you’ve never come across words like “dosha”, “vata”, “pitta”, “kapha”, “ama”, and others, don’t worry. By the end of this book, you will know exactly what each one means and how they matter in making you healthy!

Good intro
Revisado: 02-19-21
I’ve been doing yoga for years and finally reached the point where I wanted to learn more about ayurveda, so this was my first official intro to it. The content is good, however the audio clips were not arranged together perfectly; there were a few spots where the track played itself again and other spots where it seems something was clipped out. Overall effect was, I’m not sure that anyone actually gave this a “final listen” before selling it. Narrator was OK but a bit nasally at times. Altogether a good book but it’s only my first Ayurveda read, and at the least it encouraged me to want to learn more so that’s a good sign.

Historia
The world of yoga is astonishingly rich in its array of schools and practices. Yet, as diverse as they seem, they share a common aim: the discovery of the essence of existence that can be found at the core of our being, and the liberation that comes from that discovery. With this worthy goal in mind, Richard Freeman presents an enlightening overview of the many teachings, practices, and scriptures that serve as the basis for all the schools of yoga - hatha, bhakti, jnana, karma, tantra, and others.

Nice read
Revisado: 06-12-18
Enjoyed the narrator who has great diction and excellent pronunciation of Indian/Sanskrit words. The book itself was well composed and gives a good birds eye view of how the different schools and books are related and grew from each other, starting chronologically with the earliest ones. My yoga practice has deepened from the insight I was able to glean with this book. In fact, some of my intuitions and thoughts were validated with some of the ancient stories that illustrate the same concepts that I’ve been conceiving. Solid read, all around.

Historia
In trying to understand the atom, physicists built quantum mechanics, the most successful theory in science and the basis of one-third of our economy. They found, to their embarrassment, that with their theory, physics encounters consciousness. Authors Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner explain all this in nontechnical terms with help from some fanciful stories and anecdotes about the theory's developers. They present the quantum mystery honestly, emphasizing what is and what is not speculation.

Good book, bad reader
Revisado: 01-03-18
Interesting book, although I wish the authors would have talked more about information theory and how that may be a component of consciousness. Also the reader made it nearly unbearable to work through this book. He has a Boston-type accent that causes him to slur certain words and every once in a while I could simply not understand a certain word he was saying, even after replaying a few times. Made me think that I could do a better job of reading a book..! But I’m glad I stuck through, the content of the book was worth it.
