Fantasy Comedy
Revisado: 02-25-24
Jonathan McClain has a great delivery because he gets most of the jokes. He's got a good feel for the characters and Rimmel has given him plenty to work with. Lots of time on the RPG components. I could do with a little less of that but overall a good story well-told.

If you like nothing so much as wordplay
Revisado: 01-07-24
Probably my least favorite of Scalzi's writing. Felt too much like trying to be clever. Clearly riffing on Hamlet, but not well.

Historia
Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

My Kind of Weird
Revisado: 09-03-22
Peter Clines does great work with weird. This weird is largely of the creative adventure variety. Mysterious stranger is female. Clueless male protagonist helps us discover how this world works over time. Love it that favorite historical characters show up and make things even more fun along the way. It's a weird romp and Imt here for it.

Historia
Something called the “Blue Juice" is coming. For all of us. Luckily, me (Chip Collins), Pete, Nikola Tesla, Bobo, and FBI Agent Gina Phillips are here to kick its ass, and send it back to last Tuesday. Maybe. Or maybe we'll fail, and everyone in the multiverse is doomed. (Seriously, you might want to get that underground bunker ready.) Either way, I've got to get home to Julie and find out – woah, I'm not about to tell you that right here in the book description! TMI, dude.

Even More F-ing Fun the Second Time
Revisado: 01-21-19
Loved the first book so much in the morning that I bought this one in the afternoon. Lots of fun, new historical figure, new shenanigans, lots more swearing. Funny like Scott Meyer's Magic 2.0 series but harder commit on the sci-fi and a younger feel ro the overall mood. Not literary, sappy moments but an easy listen great for a day off.

A dreary slog thru an underground swamp
Revisado: 02-17-18
Gah. It isn't like I haven't heard this narrator before. She has a pleasant enough voice. This book, though. That first-time writer feel of too much description and too lttle dialogue kept lulling me to sleep. Even the idea of Pinchot narrating the next wasn't enough to keep me going and I absolutely love that guy. Skip it.

What's worse than a child with a magnifying glass, a garden full of ants, and a brilliant mind full of mischief? Try Al, a well-meaning but impish artificial intelligence with the mind of a six-year-old and a penchant for tantrums. Hope Takeda, a lab assistant charged with educating and socializing Al, soon discovers that day care is a lot more difficult when your kid is an evolving and easily frightened A.I.

Well, it wasn't dreadful...
Revisado: 01-20-18
A little slow in many spots, not my favorite of Meyer's work. Also incredibly annoying was the narrator's consistent mispronunciation of the name "Takeda;" sounds like a Brit saying thanks to a taco. Taco tah.

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

SPOILER ALERT: Only because if I'd know this, I probably would not have read the book. It was good but I hate to see characters die needlessly. Somebody who you don't want to die, does.

inconsistent quality of writing and narration.
Revisado: 10-29-16
A completely mixed bag. The great writers were predictably great and some of the unknowns were pleasant surprises but many were, while perhaps not terrible, stiff, lacking compelling characters and dull.

The downside to faking your own death is that people tend to get upset when they find out they’ve been had. In Atticus O’Sullivan’s case, they’re upset enough to come after him to make sure he dies for real this time. Yet he can’t remain in hiding anymore: He has to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth so that she can become the first new Druid in centuries.

12 years later? Okay!
Revisado: 02-01-13
While the last two books seemed to get a bit bogged down in exposition, Trapped seemed to bring back some of the energy from the earlier Chronicles. More Oberon - always a plus - and Granuaile's training finished between books. (That could have been a HPDH camping nightmare. Yeesh.) As with the rest of the series, Luke Daniels is an amazing narrator.
