Historia
The Illuminati, an inside joke? The lunatic fringe? Or a vast conspiracy hidden for centuries, unleashing it's power on a naive, defenseless world? It was the lousy luck of Saul Goodman, a tough, streetwise New York detective, to smell the trail in a bombed-out office - the heavy case he'd always dreaded. In a breakneck race against an awesome deadline, Goodman plunges down the trail of the ultimate conspiracy as the days fall away toward Apocalypse.

Classic book, sketchy performance.

Campbell is brilliant. Fairbanks is awful. This would have been so much better if they had just let Campbell read the whole thing.

Historia
Rafe Khatchadorian has enough problems at home without throwing his first year of middle school into the mix. Luckily, he's got an ace plan for the best year ever, if only he can pull it off: With his best friend Leonardo the Silent awarding him points, Rafe tries to break every rule in his school's oppressive Code of Conduct. Chewing gum in class - 5,000 points! Running in the hallway = 10,000 points! Pulling the fire alarm - 50,000 points! But when Rafe's game starts to catch up with him, he'll have to decide if winning is all that matters.

More bad message than good.
Revisado: 07-08-18
This book consists of 3 1/2 hrs of glorifying, cheering, and even providing instruction for the breaking of rules which we are taught are simply not for some people. Then you have 30 min of lucky breaks and improved circumstances for a protagonist that does not seem to have learned any of the lessons available along the way. The message seems to be "Be a brat, have a good time, ignore school work, and everything will work out in the end anyway."
It weirdly illustrates but fails to acknowledge the problem of telling harmless imaginary friends from juvenile onset schizophrenia in a child who is clearly acting out at the insistance of a voice that only he hears urging him to do bad things. Patterson has clearly strayed far to far from his area of expertise. The bad messages far outweigh the good in this book, which is odd today when there are so many really good books available.

Over the last week we listened to 5 top selling children's books and this was by far the best. I will be listening to all of this series by myself if I don't have children around. Loved it all and Harris did a really outstanding job with it. Good story, good lessens and very motivating. This is one of the best ever.

Historia
Serge is back with a bullet, torn between homicide and souvenirs. So is Coleman, torn between getting hammered and getting more hammered. Then there's good ol' Jim Davenport, the E-Team, the Diaz Brothers, and Johnny Vegas, the Accidental Virgin, cranking up the fevered action as the pot boils over on a street called Lobster Lane.

Poor choice by Wyman ruins book.
Revisado: 04-10-18
Would you try another book from Tim Dorsey and/or Oliver Wyman?
I want all of Dorseys books but none of the Dorsey books read by Wyman. To be clear, Wyman is one of my all time favorite readers but his voice choice for Surge kills these great books. I cannot understand why he thinks a big guy of Cuban descent would sound like a little weasel from New Jersey.
What did you like best about this story?
All of Dorsey's stories are great.
Would you be willing to try another one of Oliver Wyman’s performances?
Wyman's performances are some of the very best and I love his work, well, except for this. He is one of my all time favorite readers with this one exception. Choosing to make Surge Storms a small, whiny, Joe Pesci type Jersey guy killed this series for me. Where I used to hang on Surge's every word, now I want to slap him and stuff a sock in his mouth. Wyman's Surge is an annoying little pest that just won't shut up. Perplexing because all of Wyman's other voices are consistently great.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Saddness
Any additional comments?
Disappointed.

Historia
Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

I know now I will have to read everything that Correia writes and I'm convinced Pinchot is the very best reader in this business. This has been one of the most fun books we have listened to ever.

Breq is a soldier who used to be a warship. Once a weapon of conquest controlling thousands of minds, now she has only a single body and serves the emperor. With a new ship and a troublesome crew, Breq is ordered to go to the only place in the galaxy she would agree to go: to Athoek Station to protect the family of a lieutenant she once knew—a lieutenant she murdered in cold blood.

Don't miss this
Revisado: 08-25-15
What made the experience of listening to Ancillary Sword the most enjoyable?
This is good old time sci fi with fascinating alternate sociologies. I read most of the new Sci Fi that comes out and no one today is better than Ann Leckie.
Have you listened to any of Adjoa Andoh’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Adjoa Andoh is excellent. Really you have to get the first book first and the narration on that is terrible but you really should sit through it, the story is well worth it and when you get to this one Adjoa Andoh's narration will make you forget about the previous one.

Historia
On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest. Breq is both more than she seems and less than she was. Years ago, she was the Justice of Toren - a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of corpse soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy. An act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with only one fragile human body.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ancillary Justice to be better than the print version?
Absolutely not
What did you like best about this story?
The Story. Ann Leckie is brilliant. This is good Sci Fi the way it used to be. Wonderful story that even makes up for the bad narration
What didn’t you like about Celeste Ciulla’s performance?
Her biggest problem is she doesn't understand basic punctuation. But also her voice is just not right for this character.
Any additional comments?
You should get this book even though the narration is terrible. The story is excellent and the next book in the series is narrated by Adjoa Andoh and is a thousand times better. It will immediately make up for this version.

Historia
Mary Alice Brannigan doesn’t believe in the supernatural. Nor does she expect to find that Dreamland, the decaying amusement park she’s been hired to restore, is a prison for the five Untouchables, the most powerful demons in the history of the world. Plus, there’s a guy she’s falling hard for, and there’s something about him that’s not quite right.

Crusies best
Revisado: 12-10-11
The inclusion of the fantasy elements help fill out the story and give Crusies characters something interesting to do other than go to dinner, fix the sink and struggle with their mundane jobs while the get to know each other. I've read many of her books and they are all good, but nothing much happens. In this one they have danger and mystery to contend with from beginning to end. Other reviewers have complained because this book is a little bit different. But for me it was by far the most entertaining boys meet girls romp that she has ever written. I loved every moment of it.

Written for a specific audience
Revisado: 12-10-11
I found the lead character, Betsy, to be dreadfully annoying. The word inane kept coming to mind. She fights hard at every opportunity to avoid learning anything, then is mad that people weren't able to explain things to her. If you like a smart heroine this is not it. In one painfully long conversation another character says "This is like trying to talk with a first grader" and it is very true, and as such, these passages have about as much entertainment value as talking to a young child on the verge of a tantrum.
None of this is accidental. Comments from other characters make it clear that this is the character Davidson is trying to create, so it seems to me that she is simply writing for a target demographic that does not include me. If you are a careful person who wouldn't do anything dangerous unless someone offered you designer shoes, this book may be for you. Fashion minded Cheerleaders, Barbies and Valley Girls between 14 and 22 years old will love it.
That said, it's not awful. It's not a book many of us will fall in love with, but with the exception of a scattering of painfully inane passages the book is entertaining. Have a listen if you have nothing better to do.
