Historia
Beasts of the Earth tells the story of Harlen LeBlanc, a dependable if quiet employee of the Carter Hills High School’s grounds department whose carefully maintained routine is overthrown by an act of violence. As the town searches for answers, LeBlanc strikes out on his own to exonerate a friend while drawing the eyes of the law to himself and fending off unwelcome voices that call for a sterner form of justice.

The prose, the story, the composition, the characters, the settings, I liked everything about it. As good and as dark as Cormac McCarthy. Great work.

Historia
This is Reaper speaking. So begins an anonymous letter published in a Utah newspaper after a young couple is viciously murdered. Tooele County sheriff Elizabeth Gray leads the investigation into the double homicide, which is eerily reminiscent of a string of brutal killings years ago. When the letter leads detectives to yet another body, Gray calls on an old friend for help.

I don't remember ever reading a book that was this poorly written. I am astounded that this got published. I think I must have gotten this author's name confused with someone else. I listened to this all the way through hoping for a good conclusion at least and found that the primary mystery never got solved. It was filled with inconsistencies, impossibility and just shear stupidity. I come in my house and draw my gun thinking someone might be in the house. Then go on to describe a totally unbelievable present for my mother and take off all my clothes and shower without looking around to see if anyone is there? I see footprints leading to the edge of the roof and never figure out what happened? Did the government ever really shut down? who was behind all the death and destruction? why? not to mention all the inexplicable jump cuts to a really overdramatized scene where she cut her finger? everyone in this world is good looking, has multiple doctorates an other than that we don't really know them. If you took away all the filler this wouldn't even be a short story because there is no story here, just a really self involved woman going from place to place asking meaningless question and talking constantly about meaningless things. it doesn't deserve any stars

Historia
Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Don't buy this book!
Revisado: 03-11-19
I am stunned that a book that is this badly written ever made it to print, even more surprised that it would be read on Audible. I wondered if there was an editor that looked any further than the title page. It seemed that there were so many bungled details of time, place and rationale that it felt like a first draft. The first draft of a very thin, poorly researched and poorly executed novel. The story had legs but the lack of insight into how an M.E. actually comes to understand the cause of death or what a sheriff is or does makes me think that a dilletant had a good idea and didn't do the work to make it come to life.

Historia
It's 1934. Businesses went under by the hundreds, debt and foreclosures boomed, and breadlines grew in many American cities. In the midst of this misery, some folks explored unscrupulous ways to make money. Angel-faced John Partlow and carnival huckster Ginger LaFrance are among the worst of this lot. Joining together they leave their small-time confidence scams behind to attempt an elaborate kidnapping-for-ransom scheme in New Orleans.

A little over the top
Revisado: 08-06-18
This book is well performed and gets you going but is just way over the top. I don't know why we need to save the world in every book. Isn't it enough to tell a well crafted story that is plausible? Easily half of this book was just not only not believable but couldn't get me to suspend my disbelief long enough to keep me from waiting for the end. I liked the main characters but it just takes the plot so far out into the weeds it ruins them. I was hoping for a character like this that I could follow into other books but this one was just so disappointing when everything gets solved and the world is saved, too pat, too much.

Historia
The year is 1672. Hangman Jakob Kuisl and his family travel to Munich, the cosmopolitan heart of Bavaria, for a meeting of the prestigious Council of Twelve, the leaders of the empire’s hangmen’s guild - prestigious for dishonourable hangmen at least. But something dark is happening behind the scenes: in the past weeks, young women have begun turning up dead. At first the authorities assume they are a rash of suicides, but when Kuisl notices that each woman possesses a matching amulet, suspicions arise that someone is murdering them.

Revisado: 08-06-18
I have listened to or read every book about the Kuisl family and this is another in a line of great reads. They are entertaining, the characters are engaging, and the stories never fail to hook you into their intrigue. The backdrop of 12th century Germany and Austria are fascinating and enlightening. These are fantastic books well read and well composed.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.
