Historia
In KL, Wachsmann fills this glaring gap in our understanding. He not only synthesizes a new generation of scholarly work, much of it untranslated and unknown outside of Germany, but also presents startling revelations, based on many years of archival research, about the functioning and scope of the camp system.

Excellent!
Revisado: 08-06-22
Excellent book!
Mostly very good performance but the attempts at foreign accents of various people being quoted was a big and unnecessary distraction.

Historia
This book - the first comprehensive transatlantic history of the rise of neoliberal politics - presents a surprising answer. Based on archival research and interviews with leading participants in the movement, Masters of the Universe traces the ascendancy of neoliberalism from the academy of interwar Europe to supremacy under Reagan and Thatcher and in the decades since. Daniel Stedman Jones argues that there was nothing inevitable about the victory of free-market politics.

Thinly argued hatchet job
Revisado: 08-16-21
There’s a real story in here trying to get out, but this book isn’t it. The arguments are weak, and in many cases nonexistent. The text is also painfully repetitive at times.

Historia
In the most ambitious one-volume American history in decades, award-winning historian Jill Lepore offers a magisterial account of the origins and rise of a divided nation. In riveting prose, These Truths tells the story of America, beginning in 1492, to ask whether the course of events has proven the nation's founding truths or belied them.

I nearly gave up
Revisado: 09-24-20
An interesting history of the US, with more emphasis than usual placed on women and minorities. The author's reading of the work was very difficult to listen to. Quotes were mostly shouted, and if I didn't have the volume placed at the lowest level at which I could hear the regular narrative, the quotes were unpleasantly loud. I struggled through to the end (and am glad I did because the analysis of the period from Obama to the present was very interesting), but please, get this redone by a professional narrator,

Historia
He walks with me through every day of my life, in that unsteady, faltering gait that so embarrassed me when I was a boy. Always, he is holding fast to the upper part of my right arm . . . As we make our way together, my father—I called him Daddy when I was small, because it sounded American and that is how he so desperately wanted things to seem—is speaking in the idiosyncratic rhythms of a self-constructed English. So Sherwin Nuland introduces Meyer Nudelman, his father, a man whose presence continues to haunt Nuland to this day.

Needed a tighter editing
Revisado: 10-26-03
This book is an intensely personal story, and such stories tend to dwell on details that are of interest only to the people closest to them. For a more general market, a tight editing is needed - and this book didn't get it. Much of the story is interesting, but it could have been told in half the time.
