An intriguing story , odd narration
Revisado: 12-09-24
I’m blind, and I rely on audible books for my reading, or I should say listening.
I’ve greatly enjoyed at least 20 of the eve Duncan books with the wonderful Elizabeth Rogers doing a remarkable job of narration. I just cannot believe that this book was narrated by Elizabeth Rogers.
Eve Duncan appears to have developed a very deep self withdrawal, which has not been present in previous Audible books. The main character, Riley Smith, who is supposed to be British has the most phony sounding accent plus comes off as extremely whiny. It took about 3/4 of the book before I could ever get into this major character who is a young but seasoned archaeologist Obsessed with finding the grave of Helen of Troy.
The other accents of other characters in the book also sounded amateurish, fake, or just annoying. Like this. If you are reading the book rather than listening to it then I guess it would be a an enjoyable read.

Thank you Cassidy. You are a true American hero.
Revisado: 10-02-23
I was riveted by Cassidy‘s January 6 testimony. I had never heard of her before that day. And her poised delivery and the material she revealed was stunning, even though some of the info was already circulating.
This book just fills in a lot of the gaps.
For this country to remain a democracy, we need many more Cassity Hutchinson’s!

What a gyp! Don’t buy unless you want to keep on buying more and more. Ends abruptly.
Revisado: 06-10-23
The plot was nice and twisty, and I was quite enjoying it, and then it ended, but didn’t really end, and told me to wait for the next book.
I listen to many Siri’s. I did not think I was buying into a cliffhanger. I feel really cheated. Don’t think I’ll buy any more. Mark Edwards books.

Revisado: 04-27-23
What a wild ride. I’ve been reading SF and weird fiction since I was eight and I’m 81 now. I haven’t laughed so hard at the SF book since I read Harry Harrison‘s bill the Galactic hero, which I picked up in a used book bin Provincetown Massachusetts in 1970! I am now almost totally blind so I can’t go browsing in book bins but I can still listen to them.
Although I have 25 Jeremy Robinson audible books in my library, I seem to have totally missed out on this particular series.

Historia
On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

This was really a fun listen . It reminded me a lot of Saturday afternoon serial Cliffhangers at the movies. Also fun if you liked Jules Verne.
I found one thing really annoying throughout the book which was the shifting nationalities of the characters.
At the museum at at Bygdoy Ellie says she’s Norwegian by birth but lives with her father in New York. She’s then re-introduced in a bar as being Dutch, as well as her brothers on The fishing ship are also Dutch.

Quick but enjoyable
Revisado: 08-01-22
I’m not usually a short story fan, but this was a very pleasant surprise! In less than an hour, I had felt that the two main characters seemed almost real to me. Also the time travel aspect was unexpected. I don’t want to spoil this for others but I really didn’t want these characters to go away so I reread the story for a second time! I like the story even more.
Kate Quinn fans will enjoy this.

Surprisingly excellent legal thriller
Revisado: 06-12-22
I found this book in my library and it seemed to have gotten there without my buying it.
The brief description didn’t sound as if I might like it. Small-town lawyer winds up defending a Bruisel over the top killerunder complicated and unexpected circumstances.
Once I started listening, I had to finish the whole book. The narrator was able to give voice to a wide variety of characters and make them come to life.
A lot of the dialogue was in turn sassy, sarcastic, funny, and tragic.
My only criticism of the dialogue was that although the laconic responses are short and punchy, it Iwas a bit of a muchness. When the paralegal first Responded that way, it made me laugh. But then some of the other characters and witnesses in court all have that same response style, It lost some of its charm.
However, I found this to be a really excellent listen and finished it in one sitting. I’ve never heard of Mr. stagg I will definitely go onto Nate Shepherd book 2!

Good twisty story; horrible chapter editing!
Revisado: 06-09-22
This was a nice twisty Ellie Reeves story. it was murdered by 161 chapters announced each time in a nine hour book. I don’t mind narrators telling me what chapter I’m hearing but when each chapter is between two and seven minutes long it’ Totally destroys the flow of the narrative.
I’m legally blind and I can’t refer to a text version of a book where I can ignore chapter numbers if I so wish.

Should be YA
Revisado: 03-23-22
This was the first Janet Evanovich Book I’ve listen to him, although I’m 80 and have been legally blind for a few .
The brief description of the book sounded like it might be fun, which it was for the most part, but with no depth and Had everything from lost treasure, poisonous snakes, cults, drug cartels. You name it it’s in here.
Was mildly amusing at times but a as I said I think it’s something some older kids or teens might enjoy. I have enjoyed a number of YA books but the subject matter of this particular one has been overworked to death.

Historia
When a mysterious package lands on Louisa Hancock's doorstep, the Philadelphia museum curator can hardly anticipate the nightmare that's about to envelop her. The package is addressed to her father—an expert in Viking culture—and inside is a ninth-century sword, a chilling thank-you note, and photos of two dead bodies in a tableau evoking a Nordic funeral. The gruesome images match a recent crime scene.

Too many loose ends
Revisado: 02-07-22
I sort of liked the Sullivan family and Louisa in the last two books of the series but this last book had so many loose ends that I was left totally unsatisfied.
I thought the narrator did an excellent job on book 4. I am legally blind and the narration can make or Break a book for me most of the time.
Unfortunately, they were too many subplots that did not hang together and I was disappointed when the book ended, thanking this is it?
