I have exhausted the fantasy/paranormal romance genre and all the books are just bleeding together so it was refreshing to have something NEW and FUN with endearing characters in this little family like Jack... the authors must have kids. I actually went back to my Audible library and lowered my ratings on previous books in comparison to this one.

I was thinking about skipping this second book in the series because the next one seems to be everyone's favorite- but I'm glad I didn't jump. It is a necessary step in the series because the relationship between Bella and Z starts here.
I found myself more interested in the orphaned, almost vampire kid they adopt rather than the actual romance between Rage and his woman. I wouldn't have wanted to miss any of the ongoing story.

You will find these characters basically repeated in Garwood's The Prize and The Bride, except their stories are more interesting than Gentle Warrior's. It feels like she wrote this book and later improved upon it.

Because the heroine was apathetic about her every situation- I was too. I just couldn't get excited about it. Perhaps there is a romance going on later in the series, but not in this opener.

This book is enthralling- I couldn't get anything else done while I was listening to it. And the narrator was fantastic. But I have a weak stomach for torture and it cast a dark shadow over the whole story.
