Historia
It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

Good read for YA
Revisado: 02-24-24
Pretty okay story of an arrogant teenage assassin who is too trusting despite all her training and repeatedly falls for traps because of it. I think if I was in my early teens to early 20s I’d have a lot more sympathy for the main characters.
Still easy to listen to quickly, just tough to not see the characters learn and grow from their experiences.

Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon is part memoir, part investigation, and unlike any creative portrait you’ve ever heard before. Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

It is like an audio documentary journey. I loved every second, reliving memories from childhood and feeling excited to discover the music he’s made since. The insights within the music and about the philosophy of such an artist were very engaging.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Revisado: 03-08-22
I loved the series and can’t imagine anyone voicing Aziriphale and Crowley other than Michael Sheen and David Tennant. Such a deliciously irreverently hilarious good story; it makes me laugh and think and laugh some more. Some occasional dated sentiments/moments from 1990 - hopefully okay for everyone.

So strange to read a book set in the UP while living in the UP. It’s been a long time since I read a book that I felt personally connected to even though I’m not a part of the community. Very engaging story and good writing. ❤️

Okay for what it is
Revisado: 01-11-22
The narration was a big issue for me. David Monteath does a good job with the Scots accent but his american accents and particularly the voices for the american female characters are bad and distracting from the story.
The overall story is fairly predictable and what’s to be expected for the genre. It’s romance-fantasy candy and if that’s what you’re looking for, you should be satisfied.

A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality: the black Chinese restaurant.

Robyn Maynard provides listeners with the first comprehensive account of nearly 400 years of state-sanctioned surveillance, criminalization, and punishment of Black lives in Canada. While highlighting the ubiquity of Black resistance, Policing Black Lives traces the still-living legacy of slavery across multiple institutions.

Very thorough and well researched history of racism in North America and especially Canada. Difficult to listen to at times because of how painful and continuous the atrocities are in a time where I think many white people want to believe we’ve made progress. So important to keep listening.
