Glad I took a chance
Revisado: 09-14-23
I wanted to get this book as a way to support James Butcher on account of how much I enjoy his father’s work. I didn’t know what to expect from the debut novel but I’m glad I took a chance on it. Yes James wrote a urban fantasy but he created his own world and magic system setting himself apart from his father. The characters were great and the elements of mystery within the plot weaved together into a great story. Awesome first novel and I look forward to more books in this universe and with these characters.

Not sure why I waited
Revisado: 05-14-20
Years ago I tried reading Wheel of Time but couldn’t get past the first part. I finally picked it up and I’m so happy I did. The catalyst was Brandon Sanderson finishing the books and that the same narrators reading that read the Storm Light archives. There is an amazing book and exactly the kind of epic fantasy I love. I don’t normally give all five stars but this audio book well deserves it!

Historia
Tobias Kaya doesn't care about The Savior. He doesn't care that She's the ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn't care that She's of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he's forced to make The Savior his priority. Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign's Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting - and killing - for the chance to rule at The Savior's side.

Overall a fun listen
Revisado: 06-14-19
In short: A good read/listen overall and kept me engaged. Looking forward to see if there will be a sequel.
The narrator had a good pacing and a good job of inflection. There were a couple of situations where the voices he used overlapped and with the text not always calling out who was speaking it was confusing. But, it was only one or two times that happened.
There’s enough intrigue and mystery going on in the background to keep the plot moving. The characters were unique and the author did a good job of handling so many characters at once.
I’m not going to give anything away. What I will say is there was one trope that was not used which was surprising but also took some suspense out of the narrative (some tropes are used for a reason). While I wasn’t surprised by one of the mysteries I think it was decently handled by the author. One other note is the characters would say “for god’s sake,” and “god damn it” etc... But, this was a fantasy centered around a “one true savior” without any other religious explanations/information. This was confusing because it never explained who this “god” was or why people believed in the god and how the savior fit into that religion.

Impeccable performance
Revisado: 04-23-18
Not only is this one of the most revered science fiction stories, the performance by the narrator is incredible. Frankenstein is a mother of modern science fiction and developed some of the most widely used science fiction tropes and story style. Even the more modern A.I. takes over the world stories owe much to this tale. The narrator does a masterful job of not just reading but infusing the tale with the emotional weight of the original text. He creates voices for the character that are both classical in nature and sincere. There was moments I found myself almost crying along with the characters as they fast hardship. I highly recommend this audio book!!

Extensively researched and exceptionally written, Haynes details critical events in Mississippi's rich history, such as ongoing border violence, the arrest of infamous traitor Aaron Burr, and the bloody Creek War.

A must for History buffs

A must for History buffs
Revisado: 02-25-18
Unlike some historical works this book was written with a somewhat narrative style. For those that are history buffs this is must listen to because of the incredible detail and effort the author put into researching and sharing a very tumultuous episode in American history. It is often easy to just think that after the revolutionary war things were calm in North America. However, on the frontier there were many growing pains as countries and strong personalities fought to determine what kind of Country America would become in the wilds of the west. The narrator enunciates even the $5 dollar college words with ease and care. W.B. Ward also uses voice inflection to create even more of a feeling that you're listening to a story being told by the fire from someone who was there to see it all. Even a causal fan of history would thoroughly enjoy this book!!

Historia
The New York Times best-selling author heralds the future of business in Free. In his revolutionary best seller, The Long Tail, Chris Anderson demonstrated how the online marketplace creates niche markets, allowing products and consumers to connect in a way that has never been possible before. Now, in Free, he makes the compelling case that, in many instances, businesses can profit more from giving things away than they can by charging for them.

A must read for anyone in business
Revisado: 12-12-17
This book is a must read for anyone in business or seeking to be an entrepreneur or self employed artist. It's not only a good breakdown of "free" throughout history and has great advice for anyone today. The case studies are very deliberate and show how companies today are either fully using the power of "free" and those that are not and have suffered. Highly recommend!

Masterfully read
Revisado: 12-12-17
Common sense is a pamphlet written in the time the United States was in the midst of trying to decide on whether to rebel against England and become our own nation. Mr. Paine presents a well thought out, logical breakdown, of the reasons why rebellion is the only option. It's a great study on how to argue a case intellectually (which is opposite of most arguments on social media or that current politicians use). It's a piece that is timely because it deals with subjects that have once again arisen and should be addressed by the people of the United States. I did disagree with some of the points made, especially about Native Americans, slaves, and the right to take land. However, overall it is a solid and timely article. W.B Ward, the narrator, did a fabulous job of working out the pronunciation of old American English words and was masterful in using voice inflection to make it feel as if you were in a tavern listening to the pamphlet being read for the first time. This is what makes this a powerful piece for anyone to listen to.

Five stars all the way
Revisado: 07-10-17
I don't casually give out stars. I believe that 5 stars should be reserved for the best of the best. That being said, this audiobook rightly earns 5 stars!! If you've started watching the TV show, are a fan of Neil Gaiman, or stumbled upon this book by accident, you cannot pass it up. The story is riveting, the production flawless, and the experience is incredible. I fully believe this book will go down in history as required reading of American literature, though it was written by a British man. I rarely read/listen to a book more than once, but this book is an exception!
