Ramses needs to grow down

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-27-07

The big bad thing about this novel is the annoying older Ramses.

I love the young, verbose, intellectual and worldly Childe Ramses; the older confused, whining, adolescent acting Ramses is just, well, annoying.

The Ramses in Love subplot takes away from the story. I felt like slapping the little brat.

Otherwise, the book is OK. Again, I'd rather read Eliz. Peters than any number of second best authors.

Or Dorothy Cannell. Or Agatha Christie, John Mortimer, Ellis Peters, Carole Nelson Douglas, Alfred Bester(sf!), Lawrence Sanders, Rowlings, Wodehouse...

That's all I can think of just now.

Wrong Narrator

I made the mistake of getting thes rather than the one performed by Barbara Rosenblatt.
Barbara would have made this rather average Amelia wonderful, but this book can not rise above the poor narration.
Still, any Amelia Peabody is better than average of any other book. :-)

ROFL! This is really one of the funniest audio books I've ever read, but I got to say, it is not for everyone. Humor is dry, stories come from the thirties to the aughts, so be ready to hear a wide range of, what, classicity?
Check out the sample first. It helps if you are already a New Yorker fan

What this world (Audible) needs is More Lord Ickinham (and much more Lord Emsworth, but that is a different thing altogether)

Might be the best Jeeves and Wooster story ever, several of the best Wodehouse Quotes come from this book. The reading is a bit hesitant and roles are confused a few times, and the stuttering Bertie gives me the pip, but you can not get a better Jeeves and Wooster yarn.

Not what you would call a plum

Zero Stars- Do not bother.

First, the quality of sound is horrible - I have to listen to each bit at least twice to understand most of it. This is not due to the level 2 recording - I have a few #2s that are quite understandable, but it sounds like a tape recording of a tape recording of a tape recording...

Second, this story also lacks humor. None of the characters are likeable, the story is of mean people doing mean things to other mean people. I'd guess Plum was having a particularly bad time when writing this - or perhaps it was really penned by Sir Frances Bacon.

I've managed to get about halfway through, and do not intend to go on. In fact, I'd get my money back if I could.
