THIS IS A MUST READ AFTER A BREAKUP! Chase Andrews once again combines relatable situations with modern mental health treatment. Call it re-parenting, or healing, or processing… this book has been opening my eyes to how it went so wrong for so long. I left an abusive narcissist and sought therapy right away, subsequently I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD. I did not know where to go after that…so many questions. Mirror of Betrayal has provided the best, thorough exploration of Complex PTSD. Some of the examples and stories help me recognize and validate my experiences. It put my ex in a more clear view without the rose colored sunglasses. As opposed to shaming myself for everything I can see that I was more of a target. The book clearly explains his behavior patterns, which can be incredibly validating after I had been gaslit and manipulated for years.
I have listened to the book several times to continue to remind myself and pick up info I missed. What stands out is the practical guidance for healing, including navigating the grieving process, moving beyond grief, and cultivating self-love. This read is particularly powerful, as Chase doesn’t just focus on the trauma but also on the path to regaining my sense of self. I have formed several short checklists in my journal directly from the suggestions. Things that have gotten me moving again and trusting myself.
This book is an essential read for anyone recovering from a nasty break up or a chaotic parent really. It offers a all sorts of info for those feeling lost, helping to reclaim joy and a stability.
