Historia
Roselle St. Sismode is many things: victim of a conspiracy, unwilling host of an ever-evolving mind algorithm, spy for a rebel army, and heir to the Fate of Swords. As a warrior, she’s also the anticipated main event at the Secondborn Trials. When the opening ceremonies erupt in chaos, Roselle is abducted by a sadistic agent with a diabolical plan: transform Roselle into a mind-controlled assassin to topple society. But a rogue scientist has implanted Roselle with a genius technology that is far more powerful. It renders her untouchable. Faster. Stronger. And maybe immortal.

Terrible end to a mediocre trilogy
Revisado: 03-28-23
This trilogy was incredibly disjointed and so hard to listen to. The final book felt forced and pretty pointless, and about 3x longer than it needed to be. This book is the perfect example of an author telling us what happens instead of showing us with their words, and allowing us to imagine and suspend disbelief. I only listened to this book because I purchased the entire trilogy up front. (Won’t make that mistake again) I really struggle with this narrator, and didn’t feel like she ready the book in a way that made any positive impact on the story and the voices she did for male characters were terrible.

Historia
All is not well in the city that never sleeps. Even though the avatars of New York City have temporarily managed to stop the Woman in White from invading—and destroying the entire universe in the process—the mysterious capital "E" Enemy has more subtle powers at her disposal. A new candidate for mayor wielding the populist rhetoric of gentrification, xenophobia, and "law and order" may have what it takes to change the very nature of New York itself and take it down from the inside.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Gothic fiction or fictitious monologue?
Revisado: 11-09-22
Frankenstein: An 18th century tale of male fragility.
If you want to read a book about men complaining about the consequences of their action, and proclaiming that no soul in the history of the universe has every felt so wretched as they do, this book is for you!
And it turns out that half of humanity calling the monster by the name of Frankenstein was just a Freudian slip because indeed Victor Frankenstein is the monster of the tale. What a horrendous man. Spineless and indignant. Selfish and callous.
The narrator is really talented and that is the main reason I even finished this book.

Underwhelming and unrealistic
Revisado: 02-09-22
Absolutely every character in this book is written as an idiot with the exception of Amy who doesn’t act at all like a 14 year old would if they’d been kidnapped. The 3 year old is written with the language skills of a 1 year old, and the way that she is narrated is really hard to listen to. Yes kids has squeaky little voices, but they don’t sound like trolls.
The criminals in this book were beyond stupid and were openly discussing things in front of witnesses. So unbelievable.
Overall, the story was lacking, the characters were shallow, and the narration was pretty bad.

Lacked depth
Revisado: 10-04-21
The narrators did a fine job, but I wonder how they felt as they read this book. The author chose to write a book with almost entirely female characters, and it seems like he knows nothing about women, and made no effort to make the characters 3 dimensional.
I laughed at loud at some of his descriptions of the women’s behavior in this book. Like the woman who had lost interest in a police interview until she’d touched up the make up on her cheeks. Come on!
If you can’t make the characters feel like real people, and you’re going to write women as incompetent and shallow maybe try writing about men instead.

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

No shock value, but still interesting
Revisado: 09-14-21
Though there was no need for a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, I enjoyed listening to this book. The performance by all three readers was very well done. Some have criticized the book because you can guess how it may end pretty early on, but I don’t think the connection between the characters was ever supposed to be a mystery. This book isn’t as impactful as it’s predecessor but it was fun to find out how the story progressed years later.

Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Disappointing end
Revisado: 07-11-21
This narrator is nearly unbearable. He speaks like a robot, and makes all the women characters sound whiny. I think the third book went a little off the rails for me. There was just too much going on, too much focus on unimportant things/characters, it was poorly organized and the ending was lackluster.

We love Song and Story Kitchen
Revisado: 11-18-20
My son has loved Laurie Berkner’s music since he was a baby and it is some of the only music for kiddos that doesn’t drive me nuts. Song and Story Kitchen takes the songs we already know and love and turns them in to creative and engaging stories. My 3 year old will sit still and listen to several stories at a time. Anyone with a preschooler knows what a big deal that is!!! Laurie Berkner has a knack for story telling, and I love the way she and T-Pig interact. We are really hoping they decide to release a second volume!!!

Just okay
Revisado: 07-21-18
I was so bored for the first half of this book, and the ending didn't make up for it. The story doesn't make sense and as horrifying as what happened to the main characters was...it wasn't horrifying enough to justify their idiotic and selfish behaviors. if I had been reading this book instead of listening to it I probably wouldn't have finished.
