The "Big Reveal" is Brilliant!
Revisado: 05-10-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! I would however recommend reading the books in order, as I did. The author does a masterful job with character evolvement and this can best be appreciated by listening to the three books in their proper sequence.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Having listened to the prior two books in this series, I knew that there isn't a guaranteed happy ending with this author and I like that because it's a more realistic representation of the realities of crime and law enforcement. You can expect the unexpected in this series and this book has surprises throughout.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love when a narrator keeps the characters distinct and true to their personalities and Ray Chase does an excellent job doing this throughout the series. One of the reasons I prefer listening to a book rather than reading it is because a good narrator makes it easy to keep the characters straight and easily recognizable, and Mr. Chase seems to do it with ease.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. The "big reveal" at the end was literally jaw dropping!
Any additional comments?
Start the series with the first book, Lethal Rage, followed by Savage Rage (my personal favorite) and end with this book, Secret Rage.

Historia
The sleek high-rises of Park Avenue make Frank Clemons uneasy. The former Atlanta homicide detective came to New York after a sickening murder case soured him on the South, but despite the glitz and excitement of his new surroundings and the beauty of the woman he shares them with, the city makes his skin crawl. Now a private eye, he is only at ease in the city's darker corners, among the whores, gamblers, and pimps who call Eighth Avenue home. That affinity for the socially isolated is what draws him to the case of Hannah Karlsberg, an elderly seamstress who deserved a better death than she got.

The Past Explains the Present
Revisado: 03-10-14
Where does Flesh and Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Flesh and Blood ranks high amongst other audiobooks I've listened to. Unraveling mysteries from another time and solving a present day murder - what could be better?
What other book might you compare Flesh and Blood to and why?
A comparison can be made between Flesh and Blood and Streets of Fire. Mystery and history combined to tell the story of another era.
What about Ray Chase’s performance did you like?
Ray Chase navigated brilliantly amongst so many characters, languages, dialects and accents. His portrayal of the voices of the elderly characters was particularly moving. As someone who has worked with the very old, his interpretation is accurate and vital to understanding the range of emotions that are a part of living a very long life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Without giving too much away, the suicide of the young girl, that resulted from a lie, was particulary heartwrenching.
Any additional comments?
If you like history mixed in with a murder mystery, this is the book for you. The narrator expertly guides you through an array of characters at a pace that is both pleasing and easy to follow.

Expect the Unexpected!
Revisado: 03-02-14
What did you love best about Firelands?
Firelands has everything. Adventure, mystery, love, history, myths and legends all wrapped up into one fascinating story.
What did you like best about this story?
While reading Firelands, I truly did not know what would happen next. The unexpected seemed to be waiting around each corner. The story was amazing and at the same time, very believeable.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ray Chase brings the characters to life! His distinct and spot on interpretations of the voices for each character not only makes them easily distinguishable, but also gives them personality and depth.
If you could take any character from Firelands out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Pakim, of course! He is intriguing, entertaining and his unique insight into this particular time in history would make for fascinating dinner conversation.
Any additional comments?
Some reviews of this book have pegged it a gay love story. I just don't see it that way. To me it is an action packed adventure with some love thrown in for good measure - no different from most other adventure stories. The fact that the characters experiencing love are of the same gender is incidental to the main storyline.

Engaging Characters, Riveting Storyline
Revisado: 11-22-13
What made the experience of listening to The Alligator Man the most enjoyable?
The characters and circumstances they find themselves in are believable and the pace of the narration makes the storyline easy to follow.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Absolutely! I enjoy mysteries and like to try to figure out how the story will end. This one did not disappoint.
What about Ray Chase’s performance did you like?
The pace of the narration and the distinct and believable portrayal of the characters made it very easy to pick up the "book" at anytime, without having to replay where I left off.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The character of Carlyle evoked the most emotion from me. His otherworldly relationship with "Scotch" brought an element of the possibility of another realm in an otherwise very realistic storyline. The combination worked well in the book.
Any additional comments?
Perhaps author Sheehan will bring Carlyle back in another novel, this time with a more prominent role.

Captivating, Right Up To The Last Word
Revisado: 02-13-13
Would you listen to Prepare to Die! again? Why?
Yes. I would like to focus on some of the conversations between the main characters to see if I missed any clues that might have been given. There is so much revealed in the last two chapters that I found myself wondering if I had missed any hint of what was to come.
What other book might you compare Prepare to Die! to and why?
Rather than compare it to another book, I would compare the author to another author and that would be Ray Bradbury. Bradbury had the gift of making the unbelievable, believable, and that's the way I feel about Tobin's work.
Which character – as performed by Ray Chase – was your favorite?
Reaver. I finished the book about a week ago, and I have found myself missing his character. He is an endearing and complex hero.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Many times, while listening to this book, I thought to myself "This would be a fantastic movie!" So, while not terribly creative nor imaginative, my tag line would be "A Fantastic Movie!"
Any additional comments?

Surprises await you - all the way to the end.
Revisado: 11-11-12
Where does The Three-Day Affair rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Right up at the top.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Three-Day Affair?
As I listened to the narrator begin the last chapter, my jaw literally dropped. I won't elaborate for fear of spoiling it for others, but suffice it to say, I never saw it coming.
What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Through his narration, Mr. Chase conveyed the emotions of the characters in such a way, that you could not help but ride along the tumultuous journey with this group of friends. He gave voice to the individual characters in a distinct and believable manner and the pace of his narration was consistent and appropriate to the story. The characters came alive through his interpretation - just one of the advantages of listening to a book, rather than reading it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
How well do you really know your friends?
Any additional comments?
I started listening to audio books for the first time several months ago and I am totally hooked! I cannot imagine going back to "reading" again. I'll be looking out for other books by Mr. Kardos, on audio.

Riveting Narrative, Compelling Story.
Revisado: 06-09-12
Where does Lethal Rage rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was the first audiobook I had ever listened to and now it is my preferred manner of "reading." I have since listened to Savage Rage and I would rank them both equally excellent.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Absolutely! Throughout the book, I was anxiously waiting to find out what would happen next to each character, even the despicable ones.
Which character – as performed by Ray Chase – was your favorite?
Sy was my favorite with Manny a close second.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but at the same time, it was a book that I didn't want to end.
Any additional comments?
Being that this was my first experience with an audiobook, I didn't know what to expect. I was extremely pleased to find that the pace of the narration was perfect for following the plot and I also liked the fact that the characters were easily distinguishable, just by their voices. I have since ordered two more audiobooks.
