Historia
Among Jane Austen's favorite novels, and a key work in the rise of Romanticism, Camilla follows the story of three young women, from childhood to young adulthood, and their pursuit of matrimony. Kind but naive Camilla is in love with Edgar Mandlebert, a handsome and noble young man. Intelligent Eugenia, destined to inherit her uncle's great wealth, is plagued with misfortune as she is left disfigured by smallpox and has men court her for financial gain only. Meanwhile their cousin, beautiful but selfish Indiana, never finds a fortune for her good looks.

Love books by Fanny Burney
Revisado: 10-15-21
This book is a delight to anyone who likes 18 century books. The price is gorgeous And the character easy to like. It does get a little slow towards the end but overall I just love these books. Lucy Scott’s narration is excellent. She gives each character an appropriate voice and she never stumbles over the complex prose. Now I’m waiting for them to finally do a professional narration of “Cecilia”…

Historia
Between 1980 and 1988 on BBC television and radio, the exploits of the Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP (Paul Eddington) - later Prime Minister - kept the British nation enthralled. Helped - and hampered - by his diligent Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby (Nigel Hawthorne) and his Principle Private Secretary Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds), Hacker and his department became synonymous with government bureaucracy and administrative double dealing.

BEST of the best! Witty, hilarioud, and VERY smart
Revisado: 04-25-18
British comedies are some of the best out there and this one, about politics, is one of the tops. It concerns a minister, Jim Hacker, eager to implement changes, and the manipulative machinations of his top civil servant, Sir Humphrey, who is only interested in keeping the status quo, with another civil worker, Bernard (my favorite). Incisive, insightful and surprisingly still relevant. I can't recommend it enough.

Historia
Right before the wise old wizard Drum Billet died, he passed on his magical staff of power to the newborn eighth son of an eighth son. Unfortunately, Drum Billet never bothered to check the gender of the newborn baby, and it turns out to be a girl. Now his chauvinistic colleagues are forced to deal with a young girl who has all the qualifications to join their all-male profession. Terry Pratchett's third Discworld novel, Equal Rites, asks many provocative questions about magic, where it goes, where it comes from, and why.

My first discworld favorite
Revisado: 02-20-17
This book is not quite as complex as the later installment of the series. However, in some way it feels like the first "real" book in the series first made me feel like it focused on the characters; and it introduces I major character, Granny Weatherwax. For these reasons it remains one of my special favorites despite its weaknesses; the plot is rathers sparse and a little gimmicky. it's still a lot of fun though like the rest of the series. about the audiobook-- the reviews made me expect bad quality, but Ifound that strongly disagree with that view. Celia Imri does a fine job imo, even if she's not quite as excellent as Briggs and Nigel. I enjoyed her narration I thought it suited the book.

And yet another gutted Stewart abridgement :(
Revisado: 05-16-14
Would you try another book from Mary Stewart and/or Theodore Bikel?
Totally! Due to eye fatigue I can't read print anymore, and abridged versions of such great books are disappointing.
What did you like best about this story?
Stewart writes beautifully.
Was The Wicked Day worth the listening time?
Yes, as at least it gave me a preview of the series. I'll still have to read it in print, though, which is disappointing since I wanted the audio books to save me on eye fatigue.
Any additional comments?
They should create full, unabridged versions of Mary Renault's and Mary Stewart's books. These abridged versions are unsatisfying.

Historia
Merlin the Enchanter, prophet and visionary, adviser to kings: Here is the story of how he rears Arthur, the future Christmas King, in remote secrecy, safe from the warring kings and Saxons who plot against his father, King Uther. Told in the voice of Merlin himself, this tale bristles with all the suspense and intrigue of fifth-century Britain.

Yet another gutted Stewart abridgement
Revisado: 05-16-14
What disappointed you about The Hollow Hills?
That it was abridged. These abridged versions of Stewart's Merlin books are barely unsatisfying- the story feels gutted.
What does Nicol Williamson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like listening to pleasant men's voices narrating books, so I appreciated his voice. He acted out the scenes well, too.
What character would you cut from The Hollow Hills?
The question is what characters were cut from it that I didn't get to hear about :)
Any additional comments?

Historia
Was Merlin an otherworldly being or just an ordinary mortal with extraordinary powers? Over the centuries there have been many stories about Camelot, but the mystery of the magician who nurtured, trained, and advised King Arthur has remained unexplored. Some have called Merlin a sinister, all-powerful Prince of Darkness. Others have described him as a merely a man, heir to the secrets of the Crystal Cave, possessed of rare and remarkable gifts.

Another "gutted" abridgement
Revisado: 05-16-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes- I would like to hear the full version of the story.
What about Nicol Williamson’s performance did you like?
I liked Williamson's performance as a whole, and it's unfortunate they couldn't just have him narrate the entire book. Stewart's Merlin books are popular- surely there's an audience for a full version.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Depends if the movie was faithful to the book

Historia
This is the classic story of the young Theseus - Prince of Troizen, King of Eleusis and Athens, slayer of the Minotaur. Mary Renault's powerful novel captures the modern imagination by weaving myth, legend, history, and fiction into the story of a young hero's search for his destiny, or moira. If you like The King Must Die, try The Bull from the Sea.

Story is abridged = gutted
Revisado: 05-16-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I got this book since I heard good things about Mary Renault's writing, and I like books based on myths. Listening to audio books saves my eyes fatigue. I knew that this book was strongly abridged, so I wasn't surprised that the story felt gutted, so to speak, nothing but the outline of the plot. I still enjoyed the great prose and descriptions, but unless they create an unabridged version, I will still have to read the book at some point to get the full story. This is why I gave the story three stars- as a warning for people that the story is drastically shortened.
Which character – as performed by Michael York – was your favorite?
I really liked York's performance as a whole, and it's unfortunate they couldn't just have him narrate the entire book. Renault's books are popular- surely there's an audience for a full version! I for one would love that.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Depends on the movie!
