Intriguing and unique

This is the most original, interesting book I have read in years. The artfully developed characters, the deft hand with world building, and the well crafted plot are making it hard for me to find another listen while I wait for Book 2 - Harrow the Ninth.
My book group title for this month was so clumsy and predictable by comparison, I had to put it down. Ms. Muir has ruined my meeting this month, but it was so worth it. I'll have to pretend I didn't have a chance to pick up this month's book, or risk offending everyone who liked this month's selection. They won't get it because they didn't have the jarring experience of moving from Gideon the Ninth to a much lesser book.
I think I'll just go back and savor this one again.

The writing is so awful, I had to stop listening after 10 minutes. Breathless, overwrought adjectives put my teeth on edge. The make complete lack of detail and depth made me return the book for a refund. This reads like a C+ 7th grade homework assignment to write an "exciting" travel article after 10 minutes of research on Wikipedia.

Meh. People in the book industry may enjoy this, but I found the characters undeveloped, the plot silly and the twists predictable. Self-indulgent and manipulative.
