Historia
Leaves of Grass is the written expression of Whitman's view of life and humanity in the form of poetry. The author masterfully connects each poem in some way, while infusing his prose with his own philosophy. This collection is unique for its time due to the emphasis the author puts on pleasures of the flesh, without resorting to symbolism to any great extent.

wordy

Whitman was way too wordy. wish he had learned the meaning of brevity.
but much of the poetry was very beautiful.

Historia
A definitive, deeply moving narrative, Bonhoeffer is a story of moral courage in the face of the monstrous evil that was Nazism. After discovering the fire of true faith in a Harlem church, Bonhoeffer returned to Germany and became one of the first to speak out against Hitler. As a double agent, he joined the plot to assassinate the Führer and was hanged in Flossenbürg concentration camp at age thirty-nine. Since his death, Bonhoeffer has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the twentieth century.

Historia
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Overall a very interesting read.

overall I really enjoyed the narrative and felt much of the underlying message is still relevant today. But I think there were many points where the author allowed herself too simplistic a deconstruction of religion in general and Christianity in specific. I am not sure if Ann had ever made a serious attempt at studying the Bible. I can say that the Bible requires individual sacrifice, but also requires individuals to take full advantage of the gifts and talents that God put in his creation. I also think John Gault radio broadcast DEFINITELY needed to be shorter. I felt taken advantage of that I would get that far in a book and then have to sit through what became a continuous rehashing of the same point about the absolute primacy of reason in what felt like a less then reasonable method and with argument s that for a three hour tirade could have definitely been more fleshed out. other then that, really good book.
