Outstanding Sequel
Revisado: 05-02-25
When the first book is great, you naturally worry that the follow up won't hit the spot in the same way. That couldn't be farther from the truth for this sequel! It hits all the spots! Very much looking forward to see where this story goes next.

Slowest Build Up to Nothing
Revisado: 01-12-25
No Spoilers. SO much time was spent on the main character learning to become a writer and then writing and then nothing. Every time I would think something was going to get started, nope immediately back to nothing. I only listened to the end to at least get some closure to the story. Wish I had stopped when it first occurred to my brain to do so because there was no closure. The ending seemed to think it was a cliffhanger, but it was more of a "let's end this here for no reason just so I can continue to milk this into a series" kind of thing. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

Needs a different narrator
Revisado: 02-28-24
I am unable to review the story because I had to stop listening, so please know this is not a review of the story or author. The narrator is terribly flat and delivers everything with the same monotone voice so that you don't even realize you stopped listening. It feels like she's reading a bedtime story, which is not what I was expecting or wanting after reading the premise. Definitely try this if you are wanting to fall asleep, otherwise pick something else.

Historia
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Very slow with a fizzle of an ending
Revisado: 12-31-23
I enjoyed this narrator very much even though it was difficult to listen to the heavy handed gaslighting by the husband and the constant second guessing herself by the protagonist that went on for the majority of the book. I understand all too well the effects of gaslighting by a partner, so I am not disparaging women who are victima of it. I do very much loathe having to read about/listen to a female character being portrayed as clueless and then driven to rash behavior as if it were all inevitvable just because she has ovaries. The relationship dynamic between husband and wife was very clear after the first few chapters so there was no need to beat that dead horse for quite so long into the book. I stuck with it hoping I would be surprised by the big twist but even that was not as dramatic or shocking as promised.

NXIVM with a slight twist
Revisado: 10-04-23
This is basically the story of the NXIVM cult, so not at all original. It has a few small twists and side stories added in, but nothing of real value and certainly nothing that made me want to keep listening. And nothing that made the characters more than the predictable flat archetypes seen in so many books and movies these days. I also did not care for the narration. Her voice and inflections are what make it seem like a story for a younger audience, as mentioned in other reviews. I was able to listen to it for free through Amazon but would not recommend paying for it.

Distracting Narration
Revisado: 04-23-23
I enjoyed the story but was distracted by the constant he said, she said, Jo said, Gabe said, Ursa said in the narration. It was completely maddening and made it difficult to finish.
