Historia
In sports, everybody loves redemption stories, the underdog who no one believes in but through sheer hard work wins it all. But no one tells the stories of the players who work hard and don’t make it. In pro football, 53 guys get on the roster. Ten make it to the practice squad. And then there’s the 64th Man - that’s Billy Logan (Cena), who seems to always be one spot from glory.

Not funny
Revisado: 01-08-20
I expected this to be funny and it certainly started off that way. An Indian family trying to arrange a marriage for their 29 year old daughter living in America is an situation made for comedy. I've listened to some delightful performances and was looking forward not only to that but the interesting twist of all dialogue taking place during phone conversations. However, it took a dark and somewhat unbelievable turn and that's all I'll say to avoid spoilers.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Almost Interesting

The narration is so good, I get lulled into just listening to Edward Herrmann, but it's really dry and I haven't been able to finish it.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

So much fun
Revisado: 04-26-19
I loved this. A book read is always great and I listen to them in my car all the time. But a performance is SO much better and this is one of the best I've heard. The story was compelling enough that I found myself turning it on at any opportunity, not just in the car.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Grisham Revisited
Revisado: 10-19-18
I really enjoyed this book. I read a few Grisham books back in the 80s and 90s, but I don't remember this one. For some reason I chose to listen to A Time to Kill. I really can't tell you why, but it was really impressive. Even though it was set in the 80s, it was still relevant today. The characters are timeless, well written and authentic. Sycamore Row is the second Jake Brigance novel and I enjoyed it as much as the first. Grisham really holds up.

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

One of my imperfections
Revisado: 09-13-18
I have read other of Brene' Brown's books and always learned something about myself. I must admit reading them is more difficult because I tend to get stuck on something that I should work on and don't pick the book up again. Listening is much kinder to myself. I know there are things that I could be working on, but the book continues to go by. I guess that's one of my imperfections.
