Historia
In the snowbound city of Kiev, wry and bookish history student Mila Pavlichenko organizes her life around her library job and her young son—but Hitler’s invasion of Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle and sent to join the fight, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her three hundredth kill makes her a national heroine, Mila finds herself torn from the bloody battlefields of the eastern front and sent to America on a goodwill tour.

a new author for me
Revisado: 12-15-22
This was as an intriguing, exciting, War novel based on fact as I have ever read or listened to. As much adrenaline as was needed to tell an adventure story without buckets of testosterone and rage that seems to be so popular these days. Good foreshadowing. Good history.Very good narrator.

All the conspiracy, none of the reality
Revisado: 08-07-22
I took it as long as I could. But even the veneer of race relations can't hid the fact the author is pandering to those who can't wait for the apocalypse.
The premise of the U.S. caught with it's defensive pants down by Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, in a coordinated attack is laughable. Just another isolationist fantasy. I'm surprised there was no "Where was NATO?!!!", exclamations from one of the "right thinking" politicians.
I'm looking for any reviews with words to the affect of, "That's just how they would do it".

Twists and Turns

This one hit me in so many places it hurts. The theme of the story, if you aren't a super human, empathy is a burden. People hate you for it.

I'm Not Worthy
Revisado: 07-05-22
1st Nora Roberts novel. I gotta say she's a very talented and nuanced writer who writes the best sex scenes I've ever heard. Men authors are wise to either leave sex to a few sentences or hire a woman for that part.
My fragile male ego has been crushed by the character of Brook. Hell, every woman being brought up with Ms Roberts strong characters must figure out quickly they might just raise their standards.
Therfore I'll go back to my male oriented escapism, hopefully to discover one male author who can deliver sensuality with intelligence.
Thanks Ms Roberts, it was great fun.

Historia
A coup has thrown the kingdom of Farshores into turmoil, and one of the pretender’s first moves was to order mercenaries to invade the Mage District and put all its inhabitants - men, women, and children - to the sword. There is one survivor: Horace Stonecutter, the youngest son of the Stonecutter family. Consumed with anger and a hunger for retribution, he journeys out to find who ordered the murder of his family. Along his bloody journey, he meets kings, princes, princesses, noblemen - and not so noble men. May God have mercy on his enemies - because he won’t.

Began with strangely
Revisado: 05-01-22
I was puzzled at the first chapters prose style. The exposition seemed rushed, fooling me into settling into an uncomplex story. That changed. The main character ain't your average hero's journey naif. Lots of twisted turns.

Historia
Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission, they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. He isn't one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.

Perfect Narration
Revisado: 02-28-22
I'm not a huge fan of stories that cater to hyper masculine military types. But the Grey Man series has enough nuance, broad knowledge of the real world to keep anyone engaged. And the vocal variety is impeccable.
One thing thing in the beginning though. Did I hear that the airforce base in Peshawar was a recent thing? It was a hell of a place for Americans in Pindi to get a taste of home, in 1963. I was 5 and there were pools and PX, I thought I had gone to heaven.

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Nearly Perfect in Every Way
Revisado: 01-21-22
This is my kind of Audible. An underdog fighting the honorable fight while a decadent, corrupt, apparatus is set on destroying him. The dramatic cummupance , though expected, is the icing on the cake. The narrator knows his craft, the pacing and the voices could hardly be better.

The Master Has Spoken
Revisado: 05-21-21
To those who have long enjoyed the wit and intelligence (in joke) of John Le Carre', I trust you will not be disappointed in this.He is the real deal, as you know, and to those in the know, every word rings true.
Except for the very end.The facts just didn't add up. Perhaps there was a deadline.
No I won't give it away. But as I said in the beginning, you won't be disappointed.
