Historia
"Climate change is a hoax - and so is coronavirus." "Vaccines are bad for you." These days, many of our fellow citizens reject scientific expertise and prefer ideology to facts. They are not merely uninformed - they are misinformed. They cite cherry-picked evidence, rely on fake experts, and believe conspiracy theories. How can we get them to change their minds and accept the facts when they don't believe in facts? In this book, Lee McIntyre shows that anyone can fight back against science deniers, and argues that it's important to do so. Science denial can kill.

Excellent book with actionable suggestions
Revisado: 03-16-23
I liked how this book identified the problem of science denial and broke it down into discrete parts. I like how the book reviewed many kinds of science denial and identify those that have been politicized and those that have not. I liked the positive ways to engage with people who have different viewpoints. I liked the underlying humanity of the author’s s perspective, and the desire to make the world a better place through effective communication and clearer thinking.

Excellent book on mindfulness
Revisado: 02-16-23
I liked the practical and realistic application of mindfulness to daily life. I liked the focus on attention. As someone who has practiced mindfulness meditation for fifteen years, I found the recommended practices useful and the research behind it fascinating.

Historia
Cent can teleport. So can her parents, but they are the only people in the world who can. This is not as great as you might think it would be - sure, you can go shopping in Japan and then have tea in London, but it's hard to keep a secret like that. And there are people, dangerous people, who work for governments and have guns, who want to make you do just this one thing for them. And when you're a teenage girl things get even more complicated. High school. Boys. Global climate change, refugees, and genocide. Orbital mechanics.

Great book
Revisado: 06-29-20
This is one of my favorite books ever. Cent is a great character and anyone who starts her own space program is to be applauded. My daughter is one year old but I really hope she enjoys this book when she is old enough.
I am in a graduate program for Space Resources and I’m well-versed on real space science. The author does an excellent job of keeping everything as realistic as possible with the exception of the teleportation. The orbital mechanics is accurate, the radiation environment and mitigation measures are accurate, the references to SpaceX and NASA at the time of writing is accurate. The author does his research and has wonderful detail in the descriptions of complex systems.
@Steven Gould you can’t leave us hanging with just a “sample” of what is to come!

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Really enjoyed this book
Revisado: 06-05-19
Author did a great job of developing the story and the characters. The concept is very similar to the book Wildside by Steven Gould but the human dynamics are really fun to listen to and the setting in a wild Pleistocene earth and post super volcano Earth were very engaging. It’s good to see the characters make mistakes and learn from them then developed through time in what felt like a realistic way. I couldn’t stop listening to it and finished it in a day.

Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

Great book!
Revisado: 07-31-15
I really liked how the characters were portrayed and how the differences and conflicts between them drove the story. The Fuzzies and Carl were awesome!
It is also interesting to compare this book with the original by H Beam Piper; to see how societies' awareness of environmental impact has changed over the last 50 or so years. Jack Holloway is a very interesting and complex character.

Wonderful book and series
Revisado: 05-15-15
This is a book I come back to again and again. I first read it nearly 20 years ago and find something new in it every time I reread it. I have purchased it and all of the Jumper books in hardcover, audiobook, and e-book. I really appreciate the author’s perceptiveness about human emotions. The main character, Davey, has several traumas in this book and the following ones that affect him deeply. I find the story of his growth and learning to heal in his own often flawed way deeply moving. The teleportation is a fun what if. I also enjoy the technical depth that the author goes into with various topics through Davey’s interests.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

I'm enjoying the character, the world, and the system of magic. The characters are developing nicely. The writing is not as subtle as I generally like but I think it's improving through the course of the story.

Historia
Not so long ago Marcus Walker was just another young commodities trader in Chicago, working hard and playing harder. But that's all in the past, part of a life half forgotten-a reality that vanished when he was attacked while camping and tossed aboard a starship bound for deep space. Desperately, Walker searches for explanations, only to realize he's trapped in a horrifying nightmare that is all too real. Instead of being a rich hotshot at the top of the food chain, Walker discovers he's just another amusing novelty, part of a cargo of “cute” aliens from primitive planets....
