Before I mention my issue with this title, I listened on headphones, and noticed the issue the most, the narrator has serious editing issues or quality issues.

There are strange I am gonna describe them as mouth noises, like very audible breathing, gulps, sounds of swallowing, I swear at times drinking sounds, odd delays with the sounds in between..

I am to the point I am DNFING the audio books to just read it for free on kindle, or use the built in narrator.

If you listen on headphones I would suggest you avoid the audio version and just read it.

It’s a short story and decent for such a a short plot line. But also the hugest miscommunication plot point I’ve read in a while

Loved the characters and their chemistry. Decent plot development and great character growth. Voice actors really did this story justice.

Honestly I paused half way in the book due to the horrible editing, every few seconds there are heavy breathing sounds or even constant eating sounds like a chip crunching, best way I can say is mouth sounds…

All I can say it’s extremely jarring and horrible to listen to, I would suggest anyone who wants to listen to it, sit this one out read it or use voice to read, other then that story is fantastic.

Love the dual narration. Definitely one of Ali H spiciest books so far and I’m here for it. I enjoy how one of them is a little bit Neuro spicy if you will, no diagnosis has mentioned, but it’s kind of obvious in an endearing way that doesn’t infantilize. I did dislike how we didn’t get an epic revenge on the villain in the story however. But that’s just me because I absolutely hated the villain. Make sure they get some just desserts, but not enough in my opinion.

I saw this really hyped and had decent expectations going in but it fell flat. I was constantly asking where was this story going. And not in a good way. No part of the plot was really developed before flitting to the next part. I still don’t really get the point of the story beside Inmate hitman finds abused jail nurse and has an obsession with her. And as much as she protests turns out abused nurse likes violence when she inflicts it but still has soft spots. I guess its dark romance but there isn’t a lot romance or 🔥spice 🔥 between the MMC and FMC. Second half of the story feels like beauty and beast riff and comes off odd. Honestly it almost feels like someone summarizing a large novels main points but adding in a bunch of the FMC self reflection moments, not a complete story

It’s okay, but Bryce sucks

I never loved Bryce to begin with but I didn’t hate her.- kind of liked her. But in this book? I dislike her more than I disliked Nesta in ACOTAR book 1! Ruhn and Lidia carry the book the most, other side characters like Jesiba and Ithan help shoulder the weight cause Bryce is literally insufferable. She literally releases an Asteri in the night court because it might answer some questions, doesn’t give a care to entire other world but she’s the good guy in her mind? And oh so much better then the ‘horrible fae’. I think not. Or how she constantly doesn’t think of anyone else and how her decisions impact them and then is like ‘oops oh well you should support me anyway’ and they just go along with it? Not to mention Ruhn, hellhound, and Hunt were literally tortured in horrific ways but she needs a moment to deal with it?! And oh my God that’s bad but she had to live with a thought that she might not see them again and that’s worse?! And therefore they just need to move on with the trauma that they went through and support her?! She’s completely dismissive of their pain and trauma and it’s gross. Honestly there’s so many other horrible things she does and then it’s still just like oh but she’s better. Oh, but we’re gonna follow her.

Some good twists and finally some more movement in the romance department! It was only like 1.5 vague ish spicy scenes but it happened and I’m so happy! Slow burn finally paying its due.

It’s like small missions that create an overarching narrative. Romance takes a backseat most of the time but good and a little slow burn. I like it enough to keep going in the series. It gives like tv series vibes how the plot goes. Solid paranormal characters and plot

Kallum is decently relatable and likable, Winnie is annoying af. Her family is toxic, the majority of the book she acknowledges that but then she just goes back and thinks they’re great support, while ummm no they abandoned you over your ex cheating on you, why on earth would you now choose them as though they’re great support that would never abandon you?! And her parents aren’t really even that supportive, they’re mean to everyone around Winnie and judgy, forcing their way onto everything and one. That’s not support and it’s not love. Kallum is trying his best to support her and be there and he gets drunk once and goofs around like any other normal adult and suddenly he’s not enough like she all that and cherry on top. Just because someone isn’t always super serious doesn’t mean you can’t count on them. She makes poor decisions and blames others. My internal monologue has nicknamed Winnie as Whiny Winnie. The first book was so sooo much better.
