Robotic Narrator

I loved the content and think it is useful information, but the narrator sounded like an AI text-to-speech application. I feel that took away from the experience it could’ve been. Will advise others to read the book rather than listen.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Great Book!
Revisado: 07-18-23
I couldn’t stop listening! I learned so much about the life of some child actors and eating disorders. Jenette’s brutal honesty and wit as she narrated her journey kept me wanting to listen more. I will be recommending this to my kids, who grew up watching iCarly. None of us even thought or could imagine what life was like for her behind the scenes. Thank you, Jennette for such an insightful read/listen. I wish the happiest life ever. You’ve worked so hard for it!

Historia
In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares their personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain.

Grateful for This Book
Revisado: 07-08-23
This is such a great book! Enlightening for NTs and validating for the ND. I have over 30 years experience working with autistics and Dr. Price’s expertise depicted in this book serves as a catalyst for my renewed understanding of what it’s like to be autistic.
