Necessary and Helpful
Revisado: 01-03-25
I think this is a very necessary audiobook at any given time but certainly post-pandemic, as I’m listening in 2024.. A few points tho:
It seems designed mostly for the daily male drinker who has serious cravings. I’m a woman but I DID find mySELF in it however, as I believe most people will if they feel they have a problem with alcohol - daily or not!
Yes I totally agree with the author re AA and the need for an alternative that will work for the individual.
Also found myself in the author’s experience being a working musician as I am myself and this sh**t ain’t easy.
One tip: I sped up the narration to 1.2 speed.. brightened it up a bit for me.
Thank you for this publication brother!

Plot went nowhere
Revisado: 12-19-24
I tried to like this one, but the plot went absolutely nowhere and if there was a climax at all, I certainly missed it even through 8 1/2 hours… I only found this author because I follow Amanda Ronconi and as always her performance was absolutely stellar. It was her first full book that I’ve heard in an overall accent. Sorry, the story just did not do it for me.

Story is great, just gritty enough with the perfect amount of humor. Narrator is clearly one of the best in the business. I am officially a Stephanie Plum fan fan and plan to listen to every book in this series!!

Good story - terrible audio mastering
Revisado: 12-19-23
I’m glad that this story was written, clearly a lot of hard work and compiling all of the information, and the years spent doing so. Having said that, this is probably the worst audio mastering I’ve ever heard in an audiobook! I’ve listened to multiple true crime audiobooks that have separate interviews. I literally could have done better with a free online audio editing program, much less with ProTools, or whatever other program these professionals should have had access to in order to create this audiobook. I nearly stopped listening after the first 10 minutes because the narrator is so bright and clean, and then the interviews are so muffled, I had to crank up the volume and when the narrator would come back on, it would be razor sharp and painful! Just awful sorry to say. Could only listen to it in my car so I was right next to the volume control not to mention EQ or compression or whatever else they would’ve needed to match up these audio sections so much better than they did. Also, I wished that there was some sort of epilogue as far as Dustin and whether or not he was ever released. Guess I will have to look it up myself. Kind of meh in the end.

Historia
Daisy McCrae's life is in tatters. She's lost her job, broken up with her boyfriend, and has been reduced to living in the attic above her family's store, the Union Street Bakery, while learning the business. Making things worse is the constant feeling of not being a "real" McCrae, since she was adopted as a child and has a less-than-perfect relationship with her two sisters. Then a long-standing elderly customer passes away, and for some reason she bequeaths to Daisy a journal dating back to the 1850s...

A story that needed to be told
Revisado: 10-03-23
This book was absolutely fantastic and very necessary. We should never forget. I loved how everything intertwined between mystery and current reality. That was the fastest I’ve ever gone through so many hours of an audiobook! Riveting.

I thought this book was great, left me on the edge all the way to the end. I think it’s also important for us to realize what loneliness and family secrets and lies can do. I thought it was important and necessary. Great all the way around.

More detail than substance
Revisado: 10-06-22
I’ve never left a negative book review until now.. after all I’ve never written a book much less many. This story was more detail than substance and by the climax, I was tired and bored. Sorry! About 2 hours too long also with constant descriptions but missing any flow of the plot.
