Anti-fatness is everywhere. In What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat, Aubrey Gordon unearths the cultural attitudes and social systems that have led to people being denied basic needs because they are fat and calls for social justice movements to be inclusive of plus-sized people’s experiences.

Aubrey had already been a very positive force in my life via her podcast Maintenance Phase. This book is very well written and I don't think anyone can read it without being moved to their core.

Love this book, not so much the narration.

I love this book but the narration is too pompous with ridiculous accents. Still enjoyable.

Historia
Trust. Betrayal. Revenge. The Count of Monte Cristo is the quintessential masterpiece of Alexandre Dumas. In Edmond Dantes we find an early materialization of the modern superhero. He is a dashing young sailor imprisoned unjustly for treason. While in prison he meets a holy man who imparts to him all his wisdom. The "abbe" also divulges the profound secret of a hidden treasure. Dantes realizes that with such immense wealth, one could wreak a hateful vengeance on one's enemies.

The proof is in the narrator!

This has always been one of my favorite books.
Revisado: 05-04-19
The translation and narration are great, except for the weird choice to read only Valentine's lines with a ridiculous french accent that makes her sound like an idiot. This was pretty irritating since she's part of one of the better parts of the story.

Historia
In 2013 Assata Shakur, founding member of the Black Liberation Army, former Black Panther and godmother of Tupac Shakur, became the first ever woman to make the FBI's most wanted list. Assata Shakur's trial and conviction for the murder of a white State Trooper in the spring of 1973 divided America. Her case quickly became emblematic of race relations and police brutality in the USA. While Assata's detractors continue to label her a ruthless killer, her defenders cite her as the victim of a systematic, racist campaign.

I wish she hadn't skipped the crucial parts.
Revisado: 01-21-19
I did enjoy the book and was very moved by it. However, Assata made a strange decision to skip telling some main events, such as the actual shoot-out leading to her arrest, the verdict and sentencing, and the eventual escape to Cuba. Whether she wanted to avoid incriminating others, or she assumed we already knew the official story, I feel like the tale's climax was cut out.

More of a Good Course than a Great Course
- De Flavius Krakdaddius en 11-02-15
Not exactly what I was looking for
Revisado: 12-20-17
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The professor gets distracted often, and you can feel it. He will start making longer and longer pauses between words, and then just make a mistake (the wrong country name for example), and then correct himself, and eventually you hear him rally and get his line if thought back.
Any additional comments?
This is a very good summary of the period between the French Revolution and WW1, but it assumes that you've already studied all the separate parts. For example, it will not give you the story of the Crimean war, it will tell you of the events and processes lreading to it, and the impact it had, which lead to another thing which you're also supposed to already know about. So if, like me, you're looking to fill an education gap, because your high school education didn't cover the 19-th century properly, then this is not exactly the course that will do it. Although it might give you a good list of the significant things that you need to reserch further.
