Poor Descision Making Skills!
Revisado: 04-11-24
I understand Sky Brooks is thrust into this "otherworld" & has to learn a ton about herself from resources less than open about anything important. But COME ON! The more YA authors I read, the more I understand why today's youth make the piss poor choices they do, Hell they can't even learn how to think through decisions from the novels they read!
THERE'S NOBODY instructing Brooks, nobody mentoring her, much less TEACHING HER, how to navigate herself through her new world. It's infuriating that they are more interested in hiding their own truths than they are in teaching her how to BE A WOLFE! KBut truly reflects the societal norm of selfishness, self centered thinking, and sick-o fanaticism that's so prevalent in the world around us!
It's a very realistic look at today's society, minus the whole "Wolfe, Magic Beings & Magical Powers" stuff. She couldn't make a correct choice if her life depended on it! Oh wait......IT DOES!

Best Ronin Story yet!
Revisado: 12-24-20
I got hooked on story one, and this one is even better! Matthew's imagination is amazing and the story just magically unfolds.
Tim's performance, as always, brings the characters to life.

Great Story!
Revisado: 04-13-19
This story has been enjoyable. The world building, unique magical system & character building are fantastic. I especially love the dichotomy of the castes & outcasts, how all human behaviors are reflected in both cultures & how it really reflects real-life predjudices. I'm looking forward to the next book, (Which I will begin as soon as I finish my review!)

Historia
Tensions are mounting after a devastating battle before the walls of Shaliyah, birthplace of the Prophet. The East is rising, bringing equal measures of hope and despair to the magical world of Urte. For some, Salim's victory is a call to arms; for others it is evidence of a world gone mad. While the armies of East and West clash in brutal conflict, emperors, inquisitors, Souldrinkers, and assassins all have their attention turned elsewhere as they hunt the Scytale of Corineus.

GREAT Series!
Revisado: 02-23-17
For such a detailed magic system & convoluted storyline, it's a surprising easy read/listen.
There are plenty of twists & turns to keep you intersted & guessing, making it a page-turner. I recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy, magic & life drama.
I especially appreciate Hair's ability to involve & express some of the big issues apparent in our own society, making one reflect on how wrapped up we humans are with "the self", to the detriment & destruction of others, sometimes entire species as a whole.
It is undeniable that David makes observations concerning such issues as women's roles, human sexuality, bigotry and predjudice. The entire story is so much richer for it!
Nick Podehl did a masterful job narrating, his character voice range is amazing!
I'm now moving on to book 4!

Historia
Most of the time the Moontide Bridge lies deep below the sea, but every 12 years the tides sink and the bridge is revealed, its gates open for trade. The Magi are hell-bent on ruling this new world, and for the last two Moontides they have led armies across the bridge on "crusades of conquest". Now, the third Moontide is almost here, and this time the people of the East are ready for a fight... but it is three seemingly ordinary people that will decide the fate of the world.

Good Story, Well Natrated, Well Worth a Read!
Revisado: 02-03-17
Took me a while to get into the story, but the world building is complex. Would have gone a bit quicker if I was turning actual pages, I think.
Now that I'm "into it" I'm very interested to see what happens next, and loading it to play right now!

Fantastic "Coming of Age" fantasy!
Revisado: 01-24-17
This story grabs you with the action & drama right away pulling you in. I couldn't shut it off! The tale is filled with magic, intrigue, great fighting styles, battles & tells the tale of a boy who was raised & trained to become a great king.
I wish only one thing, that his women characters weren't all whinysimpering, simpering weaklings, even the warriors. Its my one big complaint. I don't know why men perceive woman weakly, especially authors. I get that in a certain era, women were domestic, but woman were hardened by war & hard living. Behind every great man was a strong woman, even in more ancient times. Most men fear writing women's strong smart characterization.

More Exciting with Each Book!
Revisado: 01-09-17
Each book in this story not only extends the story line & adventure, but also each character expands exponentially. As McPhail's universe becomes larger it also becomes more real. Her storytelling is magnificent & amazingly detailed and immersive, but not so much that it blocks the reader from adding from their own imagination.
Each book only gets better!
