I wish I hadn’t read a previous review saying this, but I’m pretty confident I would have gotten to the same point of pain.

Such a shame.

The music between chapters was overwhelming. The author’s words and the narrator were excellent. Plot got a little hokey at one point, but it recovered well. Fabulous setting.

Everything about this book is appealing. The language, setting, characters, science. Exceptional narration. I will be thinking about this book for years to come. Thank you Audible for the free listen.

The story of mysterious Raoul and his interaction with a group of American tourists left me unsatisfied. The snippets of the travelers’ pasts intrigued me, and I waited to see how they were woven in to the main plot, but that part never happened. The main storyline, while intriguing, was too weak to stand on its own

With that said, the narration was exquisite and captivating.

I have enjoyed Liane Moriarty’s other books, but for some reason this one never really engaged me. I rarely thought of the plot or characters while not listening. I often looked to see how much time was left, not sure if there was time enough to save it. It was a fairly monotonous audible experience, one of the few times I wished a different person read The two main voices in the story.

Well written whodunnit with very likable characters. I loved the performance as well, but the book even in written form would have captured me cover to cover.

Even if you’ve never read or watched Sherlock in any form, this book stands on its own. Recommend.

The story is good; very good even. Two women, connected by a common loss, tell their tale in alternating chapters. First Eve, then Charlie. The spy network is very believable, as are the experiences they have. I don’t understand Charlie’s role in the book. Leave her out, or make her character stronger. It evades me the math references were important.

The un-Disney-fied version

I am perhaps fortunate in that I have not seen the Disney movie Pocahontas, but of course, I had heard the stories of her and studied her in elementary school. As I grew older, I learned the truth behind these fairy tale versions of historic America.

This book at least accurately follows the timeline of true events in the early days of Jamestown, and the conflicts with the indigenous people of the area. While it is a work of fiction, the historical references led me into a side research journey of whether certain events took place.

The authors use of tribe names, places, and individuals is prolific, but not confusing. I did not particularly care for the voice of two of the narrators, but they nailed pronouncing multi-syllabic words perfectly.

An excellent book, a brilliant authors note at the end.

It's been a while since I've read/listened to a Grisham book. The story of four students caught in a web of fraud involving finance companies, the legal system, and the government student loan program was intriguing and held my interest. I thought often of the people I know and the amount of student debt they are carrying well after graduation. The ICE piece was disturbing to listen to and I found myself doing some googling after I was done with the book. Somewhat of a predictable ending, perhaps cliché.

I love stories about strong determined women, and DS wrote this one well. Interesting historically, too, including the social issues of the day. I truly love a good reader, and Gideon Emery did a brilliant job.
