Hudson Miller is a down-and-out boxer who is takes a job as a bouncer at a local, townie bar when he finds out his estranged father as been murdered. Very little is left to Hudson, except is father’s rentals and a salvage yard. With not much money left in his account, Hudson takes over the business up in Flint Creek, Michigan, but everything at the salvage yard isn't what it seems. Hudson teams up with a few others to make an unlikely trio to investigate what happened.

Scott Blackburn delivers a powerful debut thriller with It Dies With You. In this raw and gritty southern noir, Blackburn weaves together intriguing characters and elegant writing that hits you like a punch. Blackburn should be an author that everyone picks up this summer. So far, this is my summer pick that any crime fiction fan will love.

I was truly impressed with Ciulla's narration as well. I've listened to a handful of different books he's narrated and I've really enjoyed them all. This book was a fantastic piece of Southern noir, and I highly recommend it.

First, let's address the elephant in the room - George Guidall is not the narrator. I do know that this isn't a choice by anyone but Guidall. As he's aged, he's taken on less and less audiobooks, and I believe he's taking a large step back. I don't think this had anything to do with the author or publisher. Edoardo Ballerina is a fantastic replacement. He is a superb narrator.

The story is not Silva's best. It DOES have the classic Silva prose that we've come to love over the course of this series. Silva still is one of the best pure-writers out there. Because of that, I will almost always read his books. He's a wordsmith and always blows me away with his writing ability. My issue with this book is the same issue I've had with lots of other thrillers this year. I know that pandemic is unavoidable, but I do like reading thrillers to escape. That being said, yet another novel about COVID or the pandemic is not idea. The other issue I had is the politics. I think having politicians who are supposed to directly emulate current politicians is almost a lack of creativity. I'm not a fan of fiction novels where the author decides to interject all of their opinions of our political leaders.

Allon is still a great character, and I will still read future novels by Silva, but this one definitely fell short for me.

Wow! All I can say is Wow! This is an instant classic.

Last year, I read SA Cosby’s Blacktop Wasteland, and I absolutely loved it. I didn’t think that he could top himself, but Razorblade Tears is phenomenal. This book features two men, one black and one white, named Ike and Buddy Lee, looking to find out how their sons, who were married to one another, were murdered.

This book is gritty, raw, and real. Cosby doesn’t inflate his novels with extra fluff. It’s not Clancy length with never-ending descriptions. Instead, it’s to the point. It has beautifully woven sentences that form a picturesque, vivid painting of the novel. It has characters that, regardless of the pitfalls and struggles, are some of, if not the most, unforgettable characters I’ve read about it years. Ike and Buddy Lee will forever be cemented as these two completely opposite characters thrust into this extraordinary situation. This book is timely and touches on some of the most difficult topics society is faced with right now. I knew after reading Blacktop Wasteland that my expectations were going to be high with this one, but I never dreamed it could be this good.

This book needs to be a bestseller. It is the best book I’ve ever read, and I mean that honestly. I’ve read thousands of books over my lifetime, and this one has become the best in mere days. I don’t think there is a higher praise I could give a thriller than saying it’s my favorite book, so there it is. It’s a must-read that will be the best book in 2021.

Adam Lazarre-White is a great narrator. He was great in SA Cosby's Blacktop Wasteland, and he's just as good here.

First, George Guidall is amazing, as per usual. He always delivers a 5-star performance.

This book was incredible. It took an interesting, yet scary look at what America could be if the power infrastructure was to go under. Mitch Rapp has to handle it in typical Rapp fashion.

A few things that are worth noting - this book has a technical side to it, and Mills is spot-on when discussing computers, malware, the infrastructure, and tech in general. Mills also injects his usual humor into his novels. Some people are saying that Mills’s writing is straying further and further from Vince’s, but they say it like it’s a bad thing. I love that Mills has made Rapp his own. Yes, Vince Flynn wrote and created Rapp, but for six years, Rapp has belonged to Mills. I love what Kyle has done with the character and the series. Mills also touched on political topics, but unlike some other authors, he didn’t go overboard in discussing his own political views through the eyes of his characters. I really respect Mills for this.

I’m so happy that Mills has frozen Rapp in age, and I’m excited to see that Mills signed on for three more. I’m interested to where he takes Rapp next. I would personally love to see Mills do whatever he sees best for Rapp next, as opposed to feeling the need to appeal fans of Transfer of Power Rapp. I’d love to see Rapp transform, and I think TOTAL POWER was a great start. Thank you for the amazing thriller Kyle.

The perfect Flynn ending

Revisado: 08-19-20

This is a rough review to write, as this was the last book Vince Flynn ever penned. That being said, what a perfect way to wrap it up.

THE LAST MAN has every piece of Mitch Rapp in it. It has Hurley, Wicker, Nash, Kennedy, and the rest of the gang, as they pursue the captors of "Rick." This book is one of those can't-put-down types. It's incredibly fast-paced, and the more I read Vince, the more I realize just how brilliant he is. The way he can craft words is utterly amazing. He had a metaphor in this novel that I thought was so superb. It read: "...I'm the one drowning here, while you're sitting on the Lido deck sucking down some fruity drink." I don't know why this stuck with me, but I think it just showcased how truly genius Vince Flynn was with writing. He was a true wordsmith.

What is with all of the background noise?

This is a fantastic novel. I loved every second of it, and Frederick Davidson is a perfect narrator. However, starting in mid-Chapter 2, there was constant background noise. It sounded like a random male speaking/mumbling in the background. Not sure why or how come, but it was unfortunately extremely distracting.

I have listened to all of Brad Thor's novels. The stories continue to get better and better, and NEAR DARK is no exception. This book is a phenomenal work of fiction with a non-stop pace that keeps your heart rate going long after the story is over. I don't think it tops Backlash or some of Thor's earlier novels, but it is still a fantastic read in the thriller genre.

The issue with this, and all, of the Brad Thor audiobooks is with the narration. Armand Schultz has narrated ALL of the books, so if you like him as a narrator, you'll love this book. Personally, I can't stand Schultz. The cadence is off, and the voice sounds robotic. I can't bare listening to this book at 1x speed. I have to be >1.5x. Most books, I listen around 1.3x, but this one, I'm at 2.0x. It's the only way to make Schultz sound semi-normal in the narration. It doesn't sound like he's narrating, but rather that he's just reading a book. If you're used to thriller narrators like Ray Porter, Jay Snyder, Bon Shaw, Scott Brick, George Guidall, etc., I don't think you'll enjoy this narration. Somehow, Schultz makes Harvath sound like the most arrogant, unbearable person on the planet.

The narration is unfortunate because the novel is so good. I'd recommend reading this book as opposed to listening to the audiobook.

I won't even write a narrator review, simply because Adam Lazare-White perfectly fit this role, and he was absolutely incredible!

I don't know if it's accurate to call BLACKTOP WASTELAND S.A. Cosby's a debut, but if so, this is one of the best debut novels I've ever read. I haven't enjoyed a new author like this since I read Jack Carr's THE TERMINAL LIST.

Beauregard "Bug" is an amazing character. He's not only incredibly dynamic, but it feels like you literally see the character develop right before your eyes. This book felt like a biography or memoir, and it was so real.

This novel kept the petal to the floor - figuratively and literally. I steered through this book in one day. It flew by just like the asphalt underneath Bug. This book has accelerated to then top of my 2020 Reading List as one of my favorites, and it will be one of those books I plan to revisit again and again. It was captivating and was a non-stop thrill ride. Okay, enough with the puns.

Fantastic novel! Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers!

The PDF that accompanies this is necessary, as there are so many references to it. Because of that, it makes it difficult as an audiobook. I mostly would listen on commutes, but I can't with this book. This is more of a casual listen. The topic is quite in-depth, but it might be easier to just read the book. That being said, narration and story were great, but it's just a tough book with all of the references to the pdf.

What did Jonathan Davis do?

Revisado: 06-09-20

I had listened to the first 5 books of the Kenzie & Gennaro series by Dennis Lehane. All were superb, and all were narrated by Jonathan Davis. In those five books, Davis narrated this first-person detective thriller, and used a normal narrating voice for that of Patrick Kenzie, the protagonist. For some reason that I'll never know, Davis or his producer decided that since all of these novels are based in Boston, he should have a Boston accent. He didn't do this in any of the other novels. Davis's Boston accent drifts in and out, and even occasionally sounds British.

The choice to change the narration from what was done in the previous five books in this series, to this bizarre attempt at a Boston accent was a terrible choice. I don't know who's at fault, but the book was unlistenable. I'll be returning it. I'd rather just read it now.
