Alright, while waiting for the print version of book 2 to come out, I dove into the audiobook instead. After book 1, I was skeptical of how this would progress.

We are able to get a deeper look into the history of the kingdom the dragons rule, and the undercurrents that control the politics of this world. The tension building up for the Equinox becomes palpable as the days pass.

I'll say this, yes the relationship growth is odd-paced. We left off book 1 with Kit agreeing to help the Princes and be trained in all things, but as a business transaction for her freedom. She wants things cut and dry, and is finding out the hard way it's not that easy. I am rooting for Kit's independent ways, and that she can keep her own identity through the trials that await the pack.

The build-up pacing is also a little odd, but as this is part of (I am assuming) a quartet, I understand how challenging it is to balance this across many volumes.

I have some guesses as to where we go next, and can't wait to be delightfully surprised and spoiled by the shenanigans Kit causes for her Princes!

Next Chapter in the Lunos Universe

I'll start with the negative: As far as an installment in Lunos, Dragons' Captive is unfortunately the weakest as far as catching my attention. The plot is a little redundant to previous books, and the direction is rather predictable. As this is book one, it will be interesting to see how it evolves and grows.

Now, the positive: Dragons' Captive is expanding a universe that we have seen two pieces of so far. This new kingdom is much grittier than we have met with, and the rules that its people live by are newer to us. We do return to the days of yore feeling, versus Last Chance Reform's modern world. This is nostalgic of Lera, but as the main characters tend to fall into the immortal category it's hard to say how much overlap of worlds we will get.

While not as strong as the original Lunos quartet, Dragons' Captive does add some new aspects to the universe via the Princes, and I for one am along for the ride.

Overall Impression: Liked it, curious enough to continue on, absolutely enjoyed the narration by the author.

I love hearing books read by their authors. Don't get me wrong, there are some fabulous narrators for audiobooks, but there is something about Glen's charisma and embodiment of the characters that reminded me more of a screenplay then a book.

Storyline wise I was a tad lost until I realized this was a stand alone prequel written after book 1. It felt a little choppy, like I was getting pieces of a bigger picture that I missed the building of, but I wasn't so lose I couldn't enjoy the listen.

Definitely worth checking out, and I am now curious about this world to continue on to Book 1!
