Historia
After his wife, Sarah, dies, K. loses his metaphorical capacity, becoming so wedded to the notion of clarity that he infuriates everyone, friends and strangers alike. When he intervenes in an armed robbery, K. finds himself both an inadvertent hero and the star of a new reality television program. Together with Claire, a grocery store clerk with a sharp tongue and a yen for celebrity, he travels the country, ruffling feathers and gaining fame at the intersection of American politics and entertainment.

Reality star

Curie has an unmatched gift for imagining an America that already, somehow, exists. He demonstrated that in his first work, GOD IS DEAD, and achieves much the same effect in this new book, revealing a country both vibrant and desolate, godless and divine.
THE ONE-EYED MAN gives us a character and a nation so affixed to dogma that both have lost the ability to identify and feel emotion. Cold logic, fiery politics, and mindless entertainment have left us all trapped on a collision course we're savvy enough to see coming but feel powerless to change.
This combination makes for unexpected comedy as well as unavoidable tragedy in this work that feels so important, especially now.

Historia
The Scarlet Gospels takes listeners back many years to the early days of two of Barker's most iconic characters in a battle of good and evil as old as time: The long-beleaguered detective Harry D'Amour, investigator of all supernatural, magical, and malevolent crimes, faces off against his formidable and intensely evil rival, Pinhead, the priest of hell. Barker devotees have been waiting for The Scarlet Gospels with baited breath for years, and it's everything they've begged for and more.

Not the best goodbye
Revisado: 07-02-18
This is Clive Barker's farewell to a few of his more beloved characters, and at times it lives up to that bittersweet task. But overall, the plot is muddled, the pacing off, and the suspense uneven. If you love this author, (re)read IMAGICA instead.

Historia
Jeremy works at the Video Hut in Nevada, Iowa. It's a small town in the center of the state - the first a in Nevada pronounced ay. This is the late 1990s, and even if the Hollywood Video in Ames poses an existential threat to Video Hut, there are still regular customers, a rush in the late afternoon. It's good enough for Jeremy: It's a job, quiet and predictable, and it gets him out of the house, where he lives with his dad and where they both try to avoid missing Mom, who died six years ago in a car wreck.

Loved this book. Its ominous, sad, fearful, sweet mediation on grief and loss stay with you even if some answers evade.

Historia
John Hodgman - New York Times best-selling author, semifamous personality, deranged millionaire, increasingly elderly husband, father, and human of Earth - has written a memoir about his cursed travels through two wildernesses: from the woods of his home in Massachusetts, birthplace of rage, to his exile on the coast of Maine, so-called Vacationland, home to the most painful beaches on Earth.

Historia
"The war tried to kill us in the spring," begins this breathtaking account of friendship and loss. In Al Tafar, Iraq, 21-year-old Private Bartle and 18-year-old Private Murphy cling to life as their platoon launches a bloody battle for the city. In the endless days that follow, the two young soldiers do everything to protect each other from the forces that press in on every side: the insurgents, physical fatigue, and the mental stress that comes from constant danger. Bound together since basic training when their tough-as-nails sergeant ordered Bartle to watch over Murphy, the two have been dropped into a war neither is prepared for.

a beautiful, painfully human story well captured.
Revisado: 11-15-16
The poetic, heart breaking honesty shown by this author as he struggles to find the meaning behind random chance, best intention and inevitable human failure is both gorgeous and haunting.
The man reading captures this fantastic reverence.
This is a must listen.
