Historia
My real story starts with a disaster, an unmitigated, pull-the-rug-from-under-you, clean-out-the-bank-account disaster. But had it not happened, The Police would never have risen to become the biggest rock band in the world; Jools Holland would not have ended up on TV; The Bangles, The Go-Go’s, R.E.M., and many other music stars might never have made it either. It’s strange how a fluke, a disaster, an unlikely event can lead to incredible results. But that is in essence what happened to me....

Historia
When the Marines decided to buy a helicopter-airplane hybrid "tiltrotor" called the V-22 Osprey, they saw it as their dream machine. The tiltrotor was the aviation equivalent of finding the Northwest Passage: an aircraft able to take off, land, and hover with the agility of a helicopter yet fly as fast and as far as an airplane. Many predicted it would reshape civilian aviation. The Marines saw it as key to their very survival. Opponents called it one of the worst boondoggles in Pentagon history.

Another must read for aviation buffs.
Revisado: 03-23-23
Whittle’s style of reporting fact through a more narrative style makes his books read like the best fiction, though they are clearly heavily researched and documented. This and his book on the Predator drone development are seminal and are must-reads for military aviation fans.

Surprisingly fantastic....
Revisado: 08-12-22
Having worked on the original film and it being one of my GOATs, I was scratching my head as to why Michael Mann would allow a book, let alone a sequel, let alone participate in a book sequel. Prepared to give it the requisite 15 mins out of respect, I was floored at hearing Mann's authentic voice in the narrative. If you've read any Michael Mann, this material shows that the MICHAEL MANN on the cover is far more than just a marketing tool.
Considerably more impressive is narrator Peter Giles' uncanny Pacino impression. But not just a Pacino impression, he's doing Pacino doing Vincent Hanna. This little gem of a detail takes the words you're hearing and creates the movie you see behind your eyes.
Really well done.

Historia
Roger Ferris is one of the CIA's soldiers in the war on terrorism. He has come out of Iraq with a shattered leg and an intense mission: to penetrate the network of a master terrorist known only as "Suleiman". Ferris' plan for getting inside Suleiman's tent is inspired by a masterpiece of British intelligence during World War II: he prepares a body of lies, literally the corpse of an imaginary CIA officer who appears to have accomplished the impossible by recruiting an agent within the enemy's ranks.

Among the great spy novels…
Revisado: 09-11-21
David Ignatius is in the enviable position of being a top journalist, whose core value is truth telling, while simultaneously being a gifted story teller in the espionage space, where the core value is believable untruths. What a life…
“Body of Lies” stands eye to eye among anything from John LeCarre or Frederick Forsyth. Riveting realism, wholly believable characters.
Performance is diminished by Dick Hill’s inability to switch off the unrefined New England accent that seems to permeate all characters in the story. An interesting study in how a voice can alter the dimensions and impressions of a written character. A brilliantly written character just seems less brilliant, less intelligent, less educated when brought to life and speaking with an incompatible accent. Even the neutral narration sounds like the stereotypical taxi driver when you’re stuck in traffic after a long flight….
