Historia
Jack Ryan is dealing with an aggressive challenge from the Chinese government. Pawns are being moved around a global chessboard: an attack on an oil platform in Africa, a terrorist strike on an American destroyer, and a storm-tossed American spy ship that may fall into Chinese hands. It seems that President Zhao is determined to limit Ryan's choices in the upcoming G20 negotiations. But there are hints that there's even more going on behind the scenes.

Best Davenport book since Winter Prey
Revisado: 09-21-17
I always loved Lucas Davenport as a Detective, and his skills were superb in this story.
He really shone in this story by playing down his own part in each incident with the Disciples, and giving the credit for a good job to the people with him.
Now he is retired, but maybe he will come back if asked nicely

From DC to Makin Atoll
Revisado: 06-25-16
Lt. Ken sticks to his principles in several different scenarios, and helps the Marine Raiders invade a Japanese-held Atoll to make our enemy in the Pacific send more troops to guard the islands they hold "out there."
Lots of things happening, but all pretty "normal" for day-to-day life. Lots of build-up for future books in the Corps Series.

Really Useful Book
Revisado: 02-03-15
Dr Clark helps me understand how working with a writer's group will improve my skills. These skills include Writing, Reading, and Listening.
He also let me know that starting at the end can help me understand how to get from the beginning to my chosen ending.
I am working on a technical book on solving failure modes on electrical generating systems.
Dr. Clark's book has helped me understand how to write, not for me - but for my reader.
The technician who has no schooling on this specific system will be able to solve the basic system failure mode after reading my book and doing the preparation homework.

Historia
Korea, June 1, 1950. Captain Ken McCoy's report on probable North Korean hostilities meets with so much bureaucratic displeasure that not only is it promptly suppressed, but McCoy himself is kicked out of the Corps. At least two outfits, however, are not impressed by such infighting: the fledgling CIA, which promptly hires McCoy; and the North Koreans, who on June 25th invade across the 38th parallel.

Ken McCoy takes back South Korea
Revisado: 01-01-15
McCoy and a band of former Marine Raiders and South Korean Police plan to take islands that could bombard the ships in the convoy to Inchon that will land the troops who will push the North Koreans back above the 38th parallel.
Of course, General MacArthur takes the credit for Brig. General Pickering's plan and achievements, because he thinks he has ultimate accountability. However, Pickering works for the CIA, and is not subordinate to MacArthur.
Great story, and almost all the way through you keep watching for Major Pickering to be rescued from North Korea, where his plane crashed after taking out another "choo-choo." Maybe he will, maybe he won't,
I've listened to the Corps Series from the beginning as each new book was released.
Excellent reading !!

Historia
Six months ago, Lucas Davenport tackled his first case as a statewide troubleshooter, and he thought that one was plenty strange enough. But that was before the Russian got killed. On the shore of Lake Superior, a man named Vladimir Oleshev is found shot dead, three holes in his head and heart, and though nobody knows why he was killed, everybody - the local cops, the FBI, and the Russians themselves - has a theory. And when it turns out he had very high government connections, that's when it hits the fan.

Excellent Minnesota-Based Story
Revisado: 12-23-12
Sanford created a great story of Russian spies, intrigue, a lost witness, murder, and Minnesota backgrounds.
The spy part is answered near the end of the book.
The list witness hides in plain sight - Davenport leaves the key question(s) unasked, but the bad guy gets it 'in the end.'
Lots of good 'tongue-in-cheek' humor too.

The Beginning of many great friendships
Revisado: 09-10-12
What did you love best about Semper Fi?
It starts the story of many acquaintances in The Corps series of books. I feel I know the people in the books better now. They end up being great friends in later books.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It is a great series of intertwined vingettes that keep you listening.. I listened to Part 1 one on one day, and Part 2 the next. It was hard to stop listening at lunch.
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dick Hill's narration brings each character to life by 'different voices' for the different characters. In the beginning, it sounds kind of hokey, but soon seems as if you are hearing the characters speaking - and it helps keep them apart in your mind.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A story about a group of hard-bitten Marines thrown together just before Pearl Harbor. This mish-mash of acquaintances go on to form a strong bond in Marine Aviation and help to win WW II.
Any additional comments?
I had to choose between Tom Clancy's new book, read by Lou Diamond Philips or Semper Fi. I chose Semper Fi because Clancy's book got poor reviews due to political content.
I think I made the right choice.
