Not For the Faint of Heart
Revisado: 01-23-20
Extremely detailed story illustrating what happens when mobs rule. It may have happened a long time ago, but it should break your heart. Be forewarned: the subtitle is a little misleading because it will be a long time before you get to the DNA part, and along the way you will hear every excruciating detail of what little Louis-Charles suffered. Well read by Jennifer Dixon.

Very Short, But Then...
Revisado: 01-02-20
We don't really know a lot about the Minoans, do we? We can only learn as fast as archaeology provides, so it wasn't surprising that this work is concise. As for the narrator ... it was definitely "read" versus performed, but I don't really think it's computer-generated. There were some areas where words were stressed incorrectly for the English ear, but most of it sounded like someone trying very hard to speak clearly and "pleasantly". It's a sound that narrators used to strive for, but perhaps it's too neutral for the audience of today.

Historia
When leading Princeton physicist Paul Steinhardt began working in the 1980s, scientists thought they knew all the conceivable forms of matter. The Second Kind of Impossible is the story of Steinhardt’s 35-year-long quest to challenge conventional wisdom. It begins with a curious geometric pattern that inspires two theoretical physicists to propose a radically new type of matter - one that raises the possibility of new materials with never-before-seen properties but that violates laws set in stone for centuries.

Fascinating and Engrossing!
Revisado: 12-19-19
I'm not a scientist, but I found this story fascinating and informative, and more understandable than I thought it would be. There was humor, frustration, occasional edge-of-your-seat tension, and elation. And it comes with bears! It was a good book to listen to during my daily commute, often leaving me wanting just a few moments more. Well-read in the Audible version, with only a few bumps with the insert referrals to the accompanying pdf (and thank you for the pdf!). Give it a try-you can stretch your brain and be entertained at the same time!

Excellent introduction to Jung, but read fast. Set speed of narration to .85 to slow it down.

Historia
Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Yes, But.
Revisado: 06-21-19
Some interesting information on how languages emerge and change, but rather dismissive of the written word. Yes, the rules and principles of standardized language require discipline, and for students to stretch their brains, but that is not a bad thing. Oh, well ... guess written is not his thing even though he has authored several books. I finally gave up listening. (And actually, Dr. McWhorter, sometimes people do describe things as "refreshing"! Don't knock it til you try it!)
