Historia
Amanda Knox spent nearly four years in prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn’t commit—and became a notorious tabloid story in the process. Though she was exonerated, it’s taken more than a decade for her to reclaim her identity and truly feel free. Free recounts how Knox survived incarceration, the mistakes she made and misadventures she had reintegrating into society, and culminates in the as-yet-untold story of her return to Italy and the extraordinary relationship she went on to build with the man who sent her to prison.

Amanda Knox falsely and horribly imprisoned for murder
Revisado: 04-04-25
My ancestors and relatives are from Perugia. I love Perugia. I, too, studied briefly at the Università per stranieri. I hate the horrific injustice that was done to Amanda!! I pray that the Italian prosecutor can someday recognize his wrongdoing and offer Amanda a sincere apology.
I don’t know what language besides Italian has a stronger word for shame : VERGONA. If you say that word loudly, not ever knowing what it means, you can sense how wicked that word sounds.
I’m sorry that Amanda doesn’t have strong Christian faith. I don’t know how I’d have gotten through her ordeal without my faith.
A portion of her story is too intimate for my liking. I understand that her freedom causes her to freely communicate every aspect of her life and experience.
I’m so happy that Amanda’s life has been redeemed. That she’s came from a loving family that was 100% behind her. She’s now in a happy marriage with wonderful husband and children and now has such great purpose through the Innocence project.
Why, if Amanda and Rafaelle were tried 2x for the same crime hasn’t Rudy Guede been charged again, been found guilty and been imprisoned for life without parole.
Meredith is the most tragic victim in this true horror story. My heart goes out to her family. I hope her family can realize that Rudy is the true subhuman monster here. I pray Meredith’s family can reconcile with Amanda.

Historia
In 1944, Benito Mussolini's daughter, Edda, gave Hitler and her father an ultimatum: release her husband, Galeazzo Ciano, from prison, or risk her leaking her husband's journals to the press. To avoid the peril of exposing Nazi lies, Hitler and Mussolini hunted for the diaries for months, determined to destroy them. Hilde Beetz, a German spy, was deployed to seduce Ciano to learn the diaries' location and take them from Edda. Drawing from in‑depth research and first-person interviews, Mazzeo gives listeners a riveting look into this little‑known moment in history.

Fascinating WW2 account of women in resistance
Revisado: 10-30-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I knew nothing about this prior to listening to this audio account. I’m 1/4 Italian and absolutely love all things Italian. As an international relations major and world history enthusiast I found this book very intriguing. I was very interested to hear of the little acknowledged womens’ participation in the war effort exposing war criminals.

Historia
An adventure of the heart in the mold of literature's classic spiritual journeys. It began with a girl. Then it was Italian food. After that it was books and discovering that even Mark Twain had fallen for Italy. E. M. Forster was smitten too: "Love and understand the Italians, for the people are more marvelous than the land." What is it about Italy and Italians?

Shaw’s love letter to Tuscany
Revisado: 05-10-23
I thoroughly enjoyed James Shaw’s book A Italian Journey! I’m 1/4 Italian with an Italian Nonno who was an opera singer and artist. Unfortunately he died before my parents even met. Nonno and my American grandmother bought property in Umbria that was in our family for 57 years. We’d go there every other summer for many years until I was a teenager and in college when it was less frequent.
Like James I’m truly in love with Italy. Since COVID I haven’t been to Italy in 4 years. If I don’t get there in ‘24 I’ll burst!
I wasn’t raised Catholic but came to my Christian faith as an adult. Because of all the negatives of the Catholic Church I didn’t attribute the positives of the faith to the character of Italians but James might be right.
I learned Italian through the years from the people who worked at our Italian home. My senior year in the US my high school offered Italian. I went on to study it in college and on & off through the years. I listen to Pimsleur cds but will now look for the 100 Italian movies James has suggested.
Is James fluent in Italian now? My only suggestion would be to work on his accent. My dad spoke fluent Italian with a perfect accent so I had that modeled for me.
This is a long way of recommending his book especially to lovers of all things Italians or people exploring Italy.
Grazie Mille!

Historia
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe, published in 1852. After the publication of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", Southerners accused Stowe of misrepresenting slavery. In order to show that she had neither lied about slavery nor exaggerated the plight of enslaved people, she compiled "The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin". "The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabi"n was published to document the veracity of the depiction of slavery in Stowe's anti-slavery novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin".

The love and sacrifice of the Italian people
Revisado: 07-08-22
I loved this book. I’m of Italian-American descent. This summer I’ve listened to all kinds of historical fiction and fiction books about Italy. This has been my favorite book! I’d read A Song for Bellafortuna first and was charmed by that story.
Saving the music was so fascinating about Italy in WW2. Learning about how the Italians took in and saved the Jews in this novel and better yet really did it in WW2 was uplifting. Learning about Pope Pius’s role was eye opening. The life of the village and especially the very human sacrificing characters really fleshed out the book.
I strongly & lovingly recommend this book!

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.

Eastern Ky packhorse librarians were a real thing 1930’s-1940’s
Revisado: 11-03-19
The Giver of Stars is a great historical novel about the true existence of the ladies packhorse librarians who tirelessly rode into the eastern Ky hills and hollers. They loaned about 100,000 books to the poor in remote rural towns. This brought literacy to those who couldn’t attend school.
Very interesting for me a non Ky native. This should appeal to all my Ky friends and my friends from all over who want to know about this fascinating time.
