Historia
Catie Bay has worshiped much older Chad McCray since she was a child. When she fumbles a seduction attempt after her graduation from high school, she flees to Europe, hoping she can forget her unrequited love. Four years later, Catie returns, now a beautiful, worldly woman, and Chad, the quintessential bachelor, takes notice. He's still not looking for love, but he wouldn't turn down a romp in the sack with sexy Catie.

Weak characters and storyline.
Revisado: 07-20-21
Although many of the authors male leading men come off as pompous, misogynistic jerks, in this story, the character of Chad just never managed to show any redeeming qualities or actions, except for one choice that showed some depth of character. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this story is a bit too "rapey" for my taste. I find nothing romantic about treating a woman like a whore, especially when he well knows that she is inexperienced and has dealt with a steaming case of puppy love for him since she hit puberty! I don't like seeing female characters settling for what they can get a man to give them. I am not enjoying the narrator in this series. She portrays supposedly big sexy cowboys with a voice that sounds like a 15 year old kid.

This is the second time I have tried to get through this audiobook. I just can't do it. The character narration is off-putting and awkward. I found the characters unlikable.

I got a couple of hours into this and just lost the will to go on. Too many characters, to many details. Too hard to follow when I only listen in 30-45 minute increments.

Intriguing storyline!
Revisado: 04-22-18
I stuck with this series just to find out how the story ended. I liked the characters, but found the sex scenes to be rather gratuitous and contrived. I would have liked more in-depth exploration of emotions and feelings and conversations between the couples. It was like "really, who acts like that?" In the middle of a horrible, emotional moment, in which I was just nauseated, the characters find it necessary to run off and f$&k! I'm all for some steamy sex scenes and romance, but these books fell way short on that in my opinion.

I'll definitely be listening to this selection more than once. They brought up some points to ponder that I really hadn't thought of before that I found quite helpful. Material is current, important, and best of all, delivered in a fun, lighthearted format. I was disappointed when it was over. Couldn't get it to play on my Amazon Echo device, so had to access on my Kindle.

I found this to be a very smooth flowing story, that I enjoyed listening to. The story was told with a feeling a matter-of-factness, not a lot of unnecessary drama, and I found myself pulled into the storyline and invested in each of the characters.

Not what I expected.
Revisado: 09-22-16
My over-all reaction throughout this book was that it felt like John Edward were being forced against his will to compose it. It never felt like the project was something that he felt enthusiastic about sharing with the public. It felt like the whole premise of the book, was perhaps not something that should be, or even can be, distributed out to the masses without careful guidance.

Revisado: 09-22-16
I stumbled upon this story, and am so glad I did! It really resonated with me, in the way it showed that if you are open to the process, life has a way of guiding us to the places where we can find the people that we need to have in our tribe. It was such a soul satisfying story to listen to, sharing in the growth of the characters, and it left me with a warm feeling as it ended.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Compelling, multi-layered story!
Revisado: 08-29-16
Beautiful Ruins is a lushly picturesque story. The narrator did a magnificent job bringing all the characters to life. The story line was a bit hard to follow at times, because the story switches timelines with great frequency, but that may have been because I only have a chance to listen for an hour or so at a time, a few times a week. With so many characters, it was refreshing to see that the author ended the book by answering all questions about each of them. A most enjoyable tale.
