Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet.

It was an ok listen
Revisado: 09-29-24
For context, I'm currently on the second book. Series impressions tend to change as the story either becomes more engaging and pulls a reader in or the opposite.
I did not find book one as engaging as the hunger games (most compared to in other reviews), yet it was decent if you're just looking for a new time killer. Good narration.
I did find certain elements extremely predictable and parts of the story sort of dragged a bit. Overall entertaining, but I can't quite understand the very high overall rating.

This is why he hasn't finished Kingkiller...
Revisado: 09-26-24
LOVED book 1. Enjoyed book 2, didn't love it, but was still very invested in the story of Kvothe.
Then book 2.5...this was a pretentious exercise in how great PR thinks he is with words. SO GREAT that he will deliver a story with no plot, where in his own words 'nothing happens'. He does enjoy alliteration though and seems to think the use of clever prose will compensate for a complete lack of content.
Now book 2.6...'things' happen, but nothing that sheds light on any character background or really adds to his world in any way. I would suggest skipping to the author note at the end and then deciding whether you think it worth a read/listen. He's very proud of his accomplishments in life and wants to reiterate that he considers himself to be very good with words and word play. It's also very evident that he has spent so long overthinking that he's lost sight of the actual story telling aspect and is living in some complete self-imposed, egocentric writers block.
Patrick - the story MATTERS. Prose can be crafty or straightforward. Some prefer one over the other, but it's the STORIES we remember!! You've lost that, unfortunately. I understand why kingkiller stopped where it did now. Please don't continue unless the story matters to you again and you're willing to drop this 'I'm so crafty and clever' BS. This is the mentality that's held you back from becoming great.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

Revisado: 09-25-24
No plot whatsoever.
I liked auri in the original two books and was looking forward to this. Also looking forward to exploring the world of the underthing! But this is 3 hours of 'girl runs around in the dark and finds stuff' without further point, explanation, intrigue, or background.
Patrick REALLY likes alliteration...to the point that this feels like a pretentious exercise in pointless wordplay.

At least the narration is decent?
Revisado: 03-16-24
But I would rate this book with negative numbers if I could. Nothing happens in this book. Just a WHOLE bunch of words and extremely uninteresting dialogue. The characters are SO unlikeable and uninteresting - single one of them, except maybe the myrddraal that appears here and there, but the author spent very little time on terribly writing this one, so the character has enough mystery to be *slightly* more interesting than the others. Anyway, it's so hard to pay attention to these books be sure I care so little about the story or any of the characters. PLEASE kill Nyneave in the next book so I don't have to listen to anymore of this awful crap. I'm only here to get to the Sando books. But if the next one on the series is this absolutely awful, I might just read the wiki pages and skip directly to the Sanderson contributions.

Nuff said. Love the story and couldn't have imagined reading RoW without this background for some of the characters that don't get as much time in the main works.
